Gremlins, Inc. News

UPDATE 24/05/2025

Good morning, dear friends :

As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:
 • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
 • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
 • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
 • sometimes, improvements in the UI (font sizes and other things);

If you have any suggestions for future updates in the categories above, please post them on Steam Forums. We are here for you, working to make your game experience better.

And if you report a :hypnoheart: particularly good :hypnoheart: bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio, with these enamel pins –
UPDATE 24/05/2025

LANGUAGE EDITS
We updated texts for a total of 150 card titles, descriptions and flavors in English. This deals with the harmonization of the way we describe rules (other player / any player / opponent / reveal / show / etc.).
TOURNAMENT
We announced the results of the last tournaments.
TRIVIA TIME
Can you tell, what is missing from the cards shown below? We used this deck to playtest Gremlins, Inc. at the stage of a prototype. Hint: it was pretty frustrating to play with these, it took just one multiplayer session to realize that one crucial feature is missing.
ROADMAP

NEW CARD
We plan to add a new card in time for the Steam Next Fest, which starts on June 9.
LANGUAGE EDITS
If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

[Team CO]

PS

We are pleased to announce the start of the playtest for Sister of a Dragon, a new game we have been working on for a long time. At this time, we accepted 500 requests from players. Many thanks to those who already provided detailed feedback, whether it's about a spelling mistake or a rule that isn't fully clear in the tutorial. This feels like the early days of Gremlins, Inc. all over again.

On next Thursday, May 29, the demo will become available to the general public. The maximum number of stars you can earn in the current version, is 499. Please let us know if you manage to do this.

UPDATE 16/05/2025

Good morning, dear friends :

As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:
 • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
 • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
 • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
 • sometimes, improvements in visual assets (contrast/colors);
 • sometimes, improvements in the UI (font sizes and other things);
 • from time to time, improvements in stability of servers;

If you have any suggestions for future updates in the categories above, please post them on Steam Forums. We are here for you, working to make your game experience better.

And if you report a ːhypnoheartː particularly good ːhypnoheartː bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio.

To be honest, sometimes this commitment to weekly updates proves to be a bit difficult, but we consider it to be like going to a mental gym: we learn how to get better at working remotely across 3 time zones (Vilnius, Moscow, Gifu), and we learn how to ship updates routinely, without delaying small fixes until "the next big patch" (which earlier often meant, not doing it at all).

To everyone who flagged typos/unclear rules so far – thank you!

And to our colleague Alex, who built the update overnight despite getting married today and needing to be elsewhere – congratulations! ːspellcastingː
UPDATE 16/05/2025

LANGUAGE EDITS
We updated about 30 descriptions of action cards in English. This was a big chunk of harmonization of language, including getting rid of "opponent" where it really meant "any other player" and making the rules easier to grasp by re-phrasing based on the "(what happens) (condition)" scheme.

We updated about 40 descriptions of action cards in Russian. Typical harmonization involves using the same words to mean the same thing, and using the same phrase (1:1) for the same condition in different cards. It's all meant to make the game easier to get into, and it also prepares us for the board game edition.

We updated about 60 descriptions of action cards in Japanese. These 3 languages – English, Russian and Japanese – are the languages of our team, and thus we're able to make changes on the fly. In addition to them, we also coordinate with the external Chinese translator. As to the other languages, we will edit them only when all the English-language edits are done.

We updated 3 descriptions of cards in Simplified Chinese. Unfortunately, here we lag on the "primary" languages.

We updated the description of 1 Chaos card in English, Russian, and Japanese.

We fixed a few errors in the descriptions of action cards, and edited one character ability, in Spanish (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Lluc Riberax).
ROADMAP

NEW CARD
We are close to the finishing touches on the new card. We intend to release it at the start of the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June, where we will also participate with the demo of our new game Sister of a Dragon.
UPDATED MISFORTUNES
We made some progress with the first illustration for Misfortunes that will receive a new format once we're done. This is meant to both improve the video game, and prepare the board game edition when it happens (not much to say on this front, for now).
LANGUAGE EDITS
If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

If you spot a spelling mistake, please send it our way on the forums/in Discord. There must be a few for sure? We enjoy fixing things, and we love reading such reports. However, support for languages not routinely used by studio members may be delayed.
TOURNAMENT
Due to a very happy occasion for the team member in charge of tallying the results of all the tournaments (i.e. Alex getting married), the announcement of the results of the last tournament has been delayed. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

[Team CO]

PS

We spent most of this week crunching on Sister of a Dragon, where we finished the tutorial, and the UI updates. The only thing that prevents us from opening the Playtest is the translation – completing the English / Russian / Japanese / Simplified Chinese sets. We're going to spend this weekend working on these, to speed up the release, as otherwise we can't wait to see you try to beat all the 13 challenges, with 39 encounters that we prepared for you.

UPDATE 11/05/2025
UPDATE 11/05/2025

LANGUAGE EDITS
Fixed several typos in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune. Languages affected: Russian (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Dasedfarg).
ROADMAP
We've edited a number of action cards, but these edits are not yet included in this week's update. We will roll them in during the coming week. A few will change the titles of the cards in English and/or in Russian – where one of the languages doesn't match the mechanics, or the concept, of the card (there are a few such cases, for example, one card is called "Propaganda" in all the languages except for English and CJK where it was translated as "Persuasion", and so on).

We have agreed to add an option to "surrender" to the duel mode, when we have a chance to do it – it's not a huge thing for the losing player, who can even now simply leave the session, but it will help the winning player to save their time.

When we switched off flavor texts on Telegrams of Misfortune in the game, we didn't do this in a couple of instances that you have since reported – we'll look into this in the coming weeks.
LANGUAGE EDITS
If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback – since we continue to edit the rules to make them clearer. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

[Team CO]

PS

We are days away from inviting the first 50 players to the Playtest of Sister of a Dragon, our new game that will participate in the Steam's Next Fest in June. The build is now approved by the Steam team, and we'll start the Playtest once we've ironed the tutorial a bit more.
UPDATE 2025/05/05
The weekly update was delayed by a few days, as we spent the weekend re-writing a part of the core code because we – can you believe it? – have hit the C# assembly limits. This is the sort of prizes you get for updating a project that was created 10+ years ago ːmaliceː.
LANGUAGE EDITS
Fixed several typos in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune. Languages affected: English, Russian, Chinese.

Improved many unnatural line breaks in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune and in action cards. Language affected: Japanese.
USER INTERFACE
Stopped displaying the flavor texts of ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune during the sessions, we now only display them in Gremlinopedia. This should make the game a bit less overwhelming for new players.

Added a link to the protest forum on the Steam forums to the description of the Fair Play Rules in the game.
ROADMAP
We started prototyping a new format for ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune, which should make them more integrated into the lore of the world, and which should fix the current gap between flavor texts and actual effects.

Above you can see the first new Misfortune photograph, that illustrates a new story (which is based on one of the existing telegrams). Gone will be the different shapes, and the colors of the stamps, that often cause more confusion than clarity.

We hope to update all of the Misfortunes by the end of this year, so that the board game edition of Gremlins, Inc. already gets these visuals; and once we have the whole set, we will update the video game just as well. It's a long process, we are at 2.5% of progress at this time.
LANGUAGE EDITS
We hope to finish updating the action cards by the end of May. Languages: English, Russian, Japanese, Chinese.

If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback – since we continue to edit the rules to make them clearer. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

[Team CO]

PS

We opened the sign-ups for Steam Playtest of our upcoming game, Sister of a Dragon, and we expect to submit the playtest build for the approval of Valve this week. Which means that we're now two steps away from giving you an opportunity to test our new creation.

Initially, we will offer just the Challenges mode, which features a number of encounters that get progressively more difficult. We hope that the fact that you've mastered Gremlins, Inc. means you won't be scared by the different types of tokens with different activation rules and different power levels. Everything is simple, but it's the combination of the simple mechanics, that creates the tactical complexity of the situation.

Anyways, the signup link looks like this green button on the game's page, if you're interested:
