Nomad 1.0.2.1b Released

Hello Survivors!

More rolling updates for 1.0. This patch I focused on balance changes and adding new content within the game. We're stable enough to do that, but I am taking my time adding new content as I want ensure everything goes smoothly and we're bug free.

In addition to this, I'm also focusing on sorting out gameplay features and items. Stuff like Sickness, which was pretty pointless and there was no way of curing it.

Reduced Networking Footprint

I have spent a lot of time revisiting the networking side of Nomad by reducing the total number of bytes being sent over the network by ~90%. Even though I visted this back in 0.9.99.3, the total bytes was still almost 300 per packet in some cases. Not good! With this new change, we are achieving 24 bytes per packet.

This means no more server bottle necks, potential for massive player and zombie counts and increased server performance. Great stuff!

Due to this, the server tick rate has been massively increased to ensure everything is smooth and hit-reg is improved. Butter.

Plant Fibers

Plants have been added throughout the world. Harvest these plants to gather the new resource, Plant Fibers. Plant Fibers can be used to create Cloth, a much needed resource.

Later on, this resource will have more uses.

Iron Helmet & Riot Shield Nerfs

The Iron Helmet and Riot Shield are way too overpowered. They block 100% of the bullets from the back of the player, and from the front of the head of the player.

In this patch and future patches the Iron Helmet will negate 1 bullet and Riot Shield will negate the first 2 bullets from each player, then both will have a cooling off period for 5 minutes.

I want these items to be strong, they are designed to be super offensive and used when raiding or when attacking. However the current way it was balanced, it was too strong. By negating only the first few bullets from each player, it stays strong but also stays in line because each player must hit your item before they can deal damage to you.

Sickness

Sickness didn't really do anything and was pretty useless. This patch has buffed sickness quite a bit and also introduced a new item to cure it, Charcoal Tablets. Sickness now reduces armor by 50% and increases the drain on your food and water values by 5x. It's harsh, don't get sick.

Charcoal Tablets require 2 Charcoal and can be crafted in the player craft menu, under Medical.

Sickness now applies randomly when you are wet. The longer you are outside in the rain, the more chance of getting sick. Other ways of getting sick is by eating dodgy food or drinking dirty water. Don't do any of those things.

Door Security & UI Update

Doors no longer use only digits for the keycodes. From this patch onwards, door keycodes are now alphanumeric, meaning you can use A-Z 0-9 and some special characters * & + etc. Keycodes are still 1-4 characters long.

This will make guessing door keycodes a lot harder.

Storm Scope Updated

Storm iron sights were pretty bad, so I've updated them. Storm and the Legendary Storm both have holo sights attached. The aim of this change is to make the Storm one of the strongest weapons in the game, as it should be but players wasn't really using it as the iron sights were pretty poor.

[h2]Shipwreck Update[/h2]

The map has been updated around the shipwreck. It is now a lootable area with shipping containers. Find all sorts of items here.

[h2]Cafe Area Update[/h2]

The cafe area is now a motel! Expect more loot from this area.

[h2]Airfield Update[/h2]

Just a small update to the airfield. The airfield now have fences around the important parts. Nothing new but makes escaping from here a little harder so expect to fight others!

  • Workbenches now have less reason to fail when adding new unauthenticated players to them
  • Connecting to servers will now asynchronously load map data
  • Server should no longer spawn zombies on top of apartment roofs where they get stuck
  • Server is now twice as fast at deleting items on the ground, for when new loot is being spawned
  • Significantly reduced networking footprint by ~90%. 90% less bytes in every packet being sent to and from the server. This is huge for server bottle necks and player counts
  • Due to the massive increase in networking performance, server tick rate has been significantly increased
  • Disabled Nagle's algorithm
  • Anti teleport checks are now better when building new base structures

  • Skipping quests will only work after 10 minutes after being in a server
  • Default aim fov zoom in from weapons slightly decreased
  • All non sniper scope weapons have now decreased fov (better zoom!)
  • Player kills no longer rewards currency
  • Furnace and campfire cooking and smelting time reduced to 5 minutes, down from 6 minutes
  • Booby trapped chests now do 85 damage, up from 65 damage when opening
  • C4 will now only affect the base structure its attached to
  • Removed some xp gain from crafting some items, as this was still in as a mistake


All servers are wiped due to this update. This is to ensure no server data or game data corruption and to reset players so everyone has a fair and equal start

Nomad 1.0.1.1b Released

More rolling updates for 1.0. Today we have reached 1.0.1.1b, we're getting there. I have been focused on getting everything stable. That means working to make sure the server won't bork out, there are no known bugs in the game and least of all, no exploits.

New content has been slow due to this but I'm happy to announce that there is some new content within this patch. Although it's not as much as I'd like, it's still new.

I'm looking at once we are stable enough, we will push heavily into new content and features for Nomad.

Point of Interest Changes

Many of the smaller Point of Interests (POI's) have been removed. This is to help condense the loot in the world and make the random loot less spread over the entire map. Sometimes a player would ask me, "Why is there no loot at the airfield?", its because of this reason. The loot has just been spread too thin over the entire map.

It now gives more land for people to build bases on too. Want to build far away from every one else? Now you can, just build near the edges of the map. Whereas before these places were hot zones for people wandering the island looking for loot.

Trailer Park Added

New loot area added, the Trailer Park. This trailer park is located in between Pinewood and the Airfield. It will spawn all types of loot here.

Cafe/Retail Park Added

This area is marked with a food icon as most of the loot here are food items. It is located on your way to the industrial area, north of the map.

Southern Hangars Added

Not as major as the last two, but we needed some more loot towards the south eastern part of the map. This place will spawn mostly military stuff among others.

Vehicle Damage

Vehicle damage has now been added. Exiting a vehicle travelling more than 30MPH will result in you taking damage equal to the vehicle speed.

No more 100MPH hop outs.

Update on loot changes

The new loot changes are looking good, there are a few problems with vastly reducing loot. Mainly players reporting that they no longer have access to high powered weapons from the get go, but they shouldn't have that anyway.

I have gone and increased regular loot by around 15%, you should now see more clothing items, small arms and food items appear throughout the world.

Doors & Keycodes

It was kind of annoying having to input your keycode again when upgrading a door. In this version, keycodes are kept throughout the upgrade system. This also helps against raiders raiding your base and upgrading your doors so they have access. Though it is still strongly recommended to keep your workbench locked away in a windowless room.

Custom Servers

You can now change the default values of Nomad directly in your server configs. Change zombie spawns, loot spawns, supply drop timers and more. This is great for server owners who want to make a hardcore server, or a high loot server!

Official servers have been marked with a star on the main server list, meaning that they are official and the values have not been changed. Official servers are the way the game is meant to be played, however if you want to join a server that is not official, be warned that the values could have been changed.

Loot Overhaul & Core Gameplay Changes

Nomad had a bit of a loot balance problem, there was too much loot spawning within the world making raiding kind of pointless. Why raid a base for their military grade weapons and armour when it was so easy to loot them around the world?

The total number of loot has been reduced within the world and the spawn timer of loot has increased. This should stagger the amount of military grade weapons, armour and other items in the world where it's actually an incentive to raid other peoples bases for their items.

With this change, it is also more exciting to find higher grade weapons and loot within the world, making the whole experience a whole lot better.

To counter act this change, there has been 2 new weapons added to the game. Makeshift shotgun and Makeshift Rifle. These weapons cost very few materials to craft (and the ammo) so after you built a base, gathered some mining nodes, you are on your way to create your makeshift weapons.

This should give a better and more natural state of progression in the game in terms of weapon gearing. Spawn > craft bow & arrows > build base > gather mining nodes > decide if you want to upgrade base with new materials of mining nodes or craft makeshift weapons > find & loot higher grade weapons and gear around the world > supply drops.

Makeshift Rifle

Makeshift rifle is a low cost assault rifle that costs 2 metal and 1 cloth to make. This gun is a starting weapon after building your base.

It uses the new ammo, Scrap Ammo.

Makeshift Shotgun

Makeshift shotgun is a low cost shotgun that costs 1 metal and 1 cloth to make. This gun is a starting weapon after building your base.

It uses the new ammo, Scrap Ammo.

Vehicle Weight

Gravity in the game has been increased resulting in better handling and proper weights for the vehicles. They handle and perform much better than previous versions.

New Quests

With the recent addition of Low Grade Gunpowder and Makeshift weapons comes 3 new quests to complete. Help the safe zone collect gunpowder and deliver your makeshift weapons for an upgraded weapon and rewards.

Nomad Patch 0.9.99.9

Hello Survivors!

Just a quick update patch to address a pretty severe dupe exploit. Hopefully this will be one of the last dupe bugs to hit the game. With that said, all servers are wiped due to this exploit, do you really want everyone running around with 500 C4?

There has also been some heavy network optimizations to the game, making the whole server less laggy when playing.
