In Development: XM1302

[p]Commanders![/p][p]With the information of the first two Rough Riders Battle Path vehicles (ELKE, RDF/LT Ares) out in the open, it’s time to take a look at the final prize of the event, the XM1302 Light Tank.[/p][p][/p][p]But, as usual, a little history first.[/p][p]The XM1302 Light Tank prototype was developed by BAE to participate in the Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) program, which was a U.S. Army program to replace the aging Stryker platform. U.S. Airborne forces needed a highly mobile fire support platform, which effectively called for a reincarnation of the old Light Tank concept that had ended in active service with the M551 Sheridan.[/p][p]Two companies answered the call – BAE Land Systems with its prototype based on the old M8 Thunderbolt II Light Tank, and General Dynamics with a Light Tank based on the Griffin demonstrator. The first was the XM1302. The first iteration of this final incarnation of the M8 appeared in 2015 and was gradually upgraded until the launch of the MPF program in 2019. Twelve prototypes were in February 2021 and were thoroughly tested that year but, despite showing some quality, BAE was disqualified from the program in March 2022. Some say that the game was rigged from the start in GDLS's favor but regardless of how things went down, that was the end of XM1302.[/p][p][/p][p]The fate of all prototypes is unknown but at least one ended up in the U.S. Army Armor & Cavalry Collection museum in Fort Moore. The winning proposal by GDLS was renamed to M10C Booker and went on to be initially approved for mass production, only to be unceremoniously cancelled in 2025, once again leaving the U.S. Army without a highly mobile Light Tank the third or fourth time around. Time really is a flat circle.[/p][p]In Armored Warfare, the XM1302 will become a Tier 10 Premium Light Tank and the third and final new vehicle prize of the Rough Riders Battle Path.[/p][p]Those of you familiar Armored Warfare’s many vehicles will likely immediately draw comparison to the MPF. That’s right; the current MPF Tier 10 Premium Light Tank was the competing project that became the M10C Booker. However, while meeting the same requirements and therefore being similar to one another in real life, these vehicles couldn’t be different in the game.[/p][p][/p][p]The MPF in the game is one of the heaviest Light Tanks around and is protected by layers of NERA. The XM1302 is effectively the opposite. We modeled the basic configuration without additional armor (which can be seen on most photos) and, instead of protection, we made it about speed.[/p][p]But let’s get the armor out of the way first. The vehicle has basic armor and that’s about it. Its protection lies in its special ability (described below), mobility, and the Iron Fist active protection system mounted on its turret with the Supercharged APS ability available. The APS, while not present on the real-life prototype, is quite realistic as it could be found on earlier BAE prototypes). The smoke grenade launcher is also improved compared to other vehicles of its class.[/p][p]The main weapon is the 105mm M35 soft recoil cannon that can be found on the XM8. The main difference is its ability to deal a lot of damage in a short period of time thanks to it having a large magazine and a very high rate of fire when it’s loaded. Granted, you won’t be penetrating most MBTs in their upper frontal plate, but that’s not how you are intended to play anyway. The gun will also offer excellent depression and elevation angles (-13/+20) so the vehicle will be easy and convenient to use.[/p][p][/p][p]But the main point is its mobility. The XM1302 will be very fast and agile – that’s a given as its lack of armor needs to be compensated somehow. However, there’s one more trick to it. The XM1302 will offer a special new passive ability called Mitigation.[/p][p]Very simply put, the faster the tank goes, the less damage it takes. The current work looks roughly as such:[/p]
 • [p]If you are going 32 km/h (or faster) upon shell impact, you receive only 50% damage[/p]
 • [p]If you are going 50 km/h (or faster, almost at maximum off-road speed) upon shell impact, you receive only 25% damage[/p]
 • [p]If you are going 70 km/h (almost at maximum speed) upon shell impact, you receive only 10% damage[/p]
[p]There are of course downsides to this ability as well. For one, the mitigation does not affect module damage so it’s perfectly possible to become immobilized. Damage dealt by ramming and fires is not mitigated either. And last but not least, the numbers above are not final yet, we are still in the process of implementing the ability and it will require additional testing.[/p][p][/p][p]And that’s still not everything. Owning this vehicle will be very useful because it’ll become a prerequisite to owning ANOTHER vehicle in an unannounced upcoming system, but it’s too early to talk about that. For now, please take the vehicle “as described above”.[/p][p]We hope you will enjoy this amazing machine as much as we enjoyed making it for you. We’ll tell you more about the rest of the Battle Path in the very near future, but for now:[/p][p]See you on the battlefield![/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Historical Skins: Leclerc T40 Concorde

[p]Commanders![/p][p][/p][p]We have already unveiled one skin for the Operation Liberty event that is starting in the near future, but that is definitely not all the event’s going to contain. There is a second set of French prizes and the chief amongst them is the Concorde skin for Leclerc T40.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Despite the Leclerc T40 never making to the prototype stage, this skin is actually based on a real-life vehicle, the Leclerc Main Battle Tank “Concorde” number 6014-0030. The “Concorde” belonged to the second series of the tank, production run 8 – with improved electronics. The second series of the Leclerc was produced between 1997 and 2003 and consisted of 178 vehicles.[/p][p]The real-life “Concorde” served with the 501st-503rd Combat Tank Regiment, a unit tracing its roots back to the First World War, having fought during the Second World War with the British (including the battle of El Alamein). It survived the Cold War mostly intact and exists (albeit in a different form) today – in 2009 it was reformed as the 501st Combat Tank Regiment.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]This skin clads your Leclerc T40 in all the appropriate insignia as well as a large camouflage tarp on the hull.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As for the other assets, we also have a brand-new French camouflage for you called French (Export), as seen on a VBCI infantry fighting vehicle during the Eurosatory expo in Paris in 2024. We are also adding several real-life Leclerc MBT names as decals.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Just like with the AbramsX skin, you will be able to obtain this one by simply playing the game. The “Operation Liberty” event is starting on June 11 and if you play the game every day, you’ll receive the skin on July 14 (the Bastille Day). But even if you’re not interested in this particular skin, the event will offer a number of other prizes, most notably bonus Battle Coins for the Shadow Protocol Battle Path.[/p][p]We hope you’ll enjoy this content and, as always:[/p][p]See you on the battlefield![/p]

Offer: Asian Week

Commanders!

 • ZTZ-20 Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • Type 99B Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • QN-506 Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer
 • VT-5 Tier 9 Premium Light Tank
 • Iron Crate

Between June 5 and June 11, 2025, the following items will be available:
ZTZ-20
The ZTZ-20 is a fictional Chinese Main Battle Tank for the 21st century. It combines western influences with some ideas taken from the T-14 Armata. You can read about its (real and fictional) history in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the ZTZ-20 is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. On its own, it’s a beast of a machine and one of the most powerful vehicles in the game, featuring both a powerful gun and thick armor. It does have a special feature though – its missiles can cover a wide area with burning White Phosphorus that reduces enemy vehicle camouflage and deals damage to anyone entering the zone.

The ZTZ-20 MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
VT-5
The VT-5 is a modern Chinese Light Tank that was developed specifically with export in mind. There are many reasons why a country without its own tank development should opt to purchase a Light Tank instead of a full-scale Main Battle Tank. It’s equally as fast if not faster with equal firepower but, what is most important, it is affordable. The VT-5 excels in all these categories. While its armor cannot match that of an MBT, it can protect its crew against most infantry threats thanks to its ERA and cage armor sets. It also has a powerful 105mm gun capable of firing guided missiles, it is packed with advanced electronics and is supremely agile thanks to its 1000hp diesel engine. Simply put, wraps cutting edge technologies up into an affordable bundle. You can learn more about it in a dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the VT-5 is a very powerful Tier 9 Premium Light Tank. Fast and agile, it features solid levels of protection (the configuration in the game is the one featuring the ERA kit as well as the turret cage armor) and a good rate of fire. Additionally, its gun is capable of firing guided missiles. It’s an ideal machine for players who value speed and agility, as it offers plenty of both. The VT-5 is capable of dancing around its opponents on the battlefield, outperforming even some AFVs in mobility.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
Type 99B
The Type 99B is a fictional improved version of the currently most modern Chinese Main Battle Tank. It was designed as a concept by the Chinese tank community some years ago and we used the concept as a basis for its introduction. However, our version bears significant differences, most notably the Red Arrow missile launcher on the roof. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

The VT-5 is capable of dancing around its opponents on the battlefield, outperforming even some AFVs in mobility.

In Armored Warfare, the Type 99B is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. It is fast, agile, and capable of dealing tremendous damage over a short period of time thanks to its turret-mounted thermobaric missile launcher.

The Type 99B MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
QN-506
The QN-506 fire support vehicle is a Chinese attempt to design a cheap, export-oriented alternative to the Russian BMPT series. Instead of converting a second or third generation MBT, the engineers at Wuhan Guide Infrared Co., Ltd., likely to keep the vehicle as affordable as possible, opted to base their project on the Type 59 MBT, which is, in its basic form anyway, a copy of the old Soviet T-55 medium tank from the late 1950s. They jam-packed it with cutting edge electronics and a number of weapon systems, including ATGMs, an automatic cannon or smaller caliber rockets. However, despite the use of an unmanned turret, the protection levels of this vehicle are still quite low and, so far, there haven’t been any signs of interest in the QN-506. You can learn more about this vehicle in our dedicated article.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In Armored Warfare, the QN-506 is a Premium Tier 9 Tank Destroyer that gameplay-wise resembles the popular BMPT series. However, unlike the Russian Terminators, it has a number of interesting features including tree different weapon systems (30mm cannon, 70mm unguided rockets and 151mm ATGMs) and loitering recon ammunition flying towards the end of a map and spotting everything in its path. The last ability is unique to the QN-506 and makes it one of the most potent support vehicles on the battlefield.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
Iron Crate
We’ve prepared for you an additional offer this week. The Iron Crate is available in our Web Shop!

This crate allows you to win a Tier 4 to Tier 10 Premium vehicle (or its value in Gold if you have it already). The crate contains some very rare vehicles, including:

 • ZTL-11 Tier 9 Premium TD
 • VN17 Tier 8 Premium AFV

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.

We hope that you will enjoy the offer and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
