Starbase - Progress Notes Week 15 (2020)

[h3](April 6th - 9th)[/h3]
Hello everyone! Here are the progress notes of week 15:

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Color palette updated for in-game chat, old colors replaced with new colors that are easier to read
  • Chat colors for leaders in Group and Team chats set to follow same logic as in Company officer chat
  • Faction functions and chat needs design worked on for separate faction and faction officer channels
  • Option to show channel names (long or short) and timestamps (long or short) added
  • Buzzsaw tested, issues detected in the 3rd-person view passed on to be fixed
  • Jobs in Work Hub tested and a configure issue fixed in Assembly Job: now spawned components are despawned when carried outside the hall
Spaceships
  • New mining ship being build
  • The positions of plates changed in Spatha variants to fix an issue where the ship was not flying straight
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • An initial implementation for recovering ships that were not properly despawned has been added
  • Small fixes in player animation activation and scrap detection/deletion have been made
  • A feedback system for component-specific voxel volume changes has been implemented
  • Buzzsaw only consumes ammo when actually cutting stuff now
  • Buzzsaw's distance calculation has been improved and audio issues have been fixed
  • Welding Tool now only consumes ammo when welding things
User Interface
  • Issues with item shop amount validation and button styles have been fixed
  • A maximum amount added when buying to station storage
  • Syncing has been added for crates so that other players can see the changes made to the slots correctly
  • A locking system has been added for crates when the slots are being dragged so other players can't intervene
  • Implementation of the feedback server is underway
Audio
  • Menu entry button sound support has been added
  • Some of the tool button styles with audio support have been added to Spaceship Designer
  • Spaceship Designer window sounds have been plugged in
Spaceship Designer
  • The individual components of multi-component entities can no longer be selected, instead both components are automatically selected, this prevents the user from accidentally separating the components from each other
  • The budget window can now estimate and show the modification price of a ship being edited in the Spaceship Designer
  • A system has been added for preventing the duplication and creation of unallowed objects in the ship creator
  • A bug that allowed the Spaceship Designer UI to stay open when being kicked or banned has been fixed
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations
  • Buzzsaw's 1st-person reload animation has been finished
  • Aim animations have been polished
  • Falling and fly animations for Pickaxe (relaxed) are in the making
  • Death animations are in the making
  • Relaxed pistol crouch transition & heavy crouch transition are in the making
  • Crouch transition & heavy crouch transition have been finished
Other
  • New large asteroids have been made, variation added to the clusters
  • More variations of asteroid materials are in the making
  • Multi-material testing and overall material adjustments on big asteroids have been made
  • Maneuver thruster's misalignment has been fixed
  • Autocannon's ammo connection angle has been changed to 30 degrees
  • Moon rock density tests are underway
  • Exterior decorating and decal bleed fixes on medium halls in the making
  • Asteroid hall farLOD tintmask and color map updated
  • Mega station's ship showroom farLOD has been finished

Starbase - Progress Notes Week 14 (2020)

Hello everyone! Here are the progress notes of week 14:

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Shoulder piece art for insignia configured
  • Assembly Job added to Work Hub and is now accessible in game again, after build error fixes
  • New fracture destruction effect tested, needs polishing and new fracture models
  • Early game player progression looked into, earning credits with new mining system tested
  • Ship and ship pricing economy tweaked, making cheap mining ships for new mining system tested
  • Chat UI worked on, color scheme improved with new color palettes and brighter colors
  • Chat UI visibility improved on, option to hide or show channel names added
Stations
  • Faction stations' Ship Design Workshops' instance areas had faulty LoadMode settings, which have now been fixed
  • The following grid slots have been updated for the upcoming Prospectors shop: Mining hall (Small), Mining hall (Large) and Trading hub hardware (small)
Spaceship Designer
  • Mockups and designs worked on for the Version Control and Blueprints in Asset Browser
  • Descriptions for tools added
Other
  • Vasama Vanette with modular ore cargo crates and resource port finished
  • New devices under Cargo folder, locale changed: Resource Port is now Resource Bridge
  • Asset locale updates and fixes: locales added for all type of hinge rods, dimension info added for text panel and ItemNames in ItemComponents fixed
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Projectile spawn position issues when shooting while aboard a ship have been fixed
  • Other players' tool animations are now synced properly
  • Thrust is now reduced when the ship structure blocks thruster exhaust
  • A bug where SawTool would trigger audio events multiple times has been fixed
  • Blueprints now disappear after using Welding Tool
  • Blueprints now disappear when a station lot is resigned
  • Welding Tool's ammo consumption and reload have been updated
  • Preventing players and their items entering station lots they do not own is in the making
User Interface
  • Support added for dropping & picking up items bought from shops
  • Bolt Tool raycast hitting items on player's back has been fixed
  • Drag and drop code has been refactored
  • Issues with moving between mining backpack slots and station storage have been fixed
  • Merge problem with vacuumed ores has been fixed, player can't collect more ores than allowed anymore
Audio
  • Chat menu sounds have been finished
  • Spaceship Designer sounds are in the making
  • Support for common button sounds in various Spaceship Designer UI elements has been implemented
Spaceship Designer
  • Basic ambient light settings have been added to Spaceship Designer
  • An issue where entering the Spaceship Designer while still loading a station resulted in significantly lowered FPS has been fixed
  • Issues where objects were leaking in and out of edit and test modes in Spaceship Designer have been fixed
  • An issue where the multi user undo system would break when returning from the test mode in multiplayer has been fixed
  • Spaceship Designer-bought ships spawning in wrong orientation has been fixed
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations
  • New ad animations are in the making
  • Saw Tool's 1st person reload animation is in the making
  • Rifle stand aiming animation has been polished
  • Sitting pickaxe mining animation state has been tweaked
  • All heavy crouch animations with wrong positioning have been fixed
  • Prone animations have been polished
  • Rocket Launcher relaxed crouch transition has been finished, pistol relaxed crouch transition is in the making
Other
  • New asteroid clusters have been made
  • The drone rank plates have been updated to be visually more fitting with the armor pieces
  • Height terrain and cliff rock tests have been made
  • Skyscraper base module prototype build is in the making
  • Baseplate armoset's texture polish has bene finished
  • Flat logos have been made for Reaper Cannon and Sentinel Rifle, older weapon logos have been updated

Hello everyone! Here are the progress notes of week 13:

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Assembly Job tested, Bolt Profile snapping feature made the bolting really easy
  • Assembly Job tested, item blocker entities added on each doorway so objects cannot be thrown through the doorways
  • Buzzsaw power usage configured to 10/sec, which equals to 100 seconds of continuous sawing with one power pack
  • Bolt Tool and the bolt profile override feature tested, works without issues
  • Chat features worked on, default settings adjusted
  • Insurance terminals' location and parenting fixed in origin map
  • Mining Job tested in the new Work Hub, working without issues
Stations
  • Empire VIS HQ grid slot has been updated: structures inside the slot have been relocated and rotated to enable a better view of the Capital
  • Mining Job grid slot has been replaced with the Work Hub grid slot
Spaceship Designer
  • Locales fixed and updated
  • Economy design worked on
Other
  • Socket position changed in battery asset, cabling adjusted in ships with battery to fit this change
  • Locales added for objects and resources
  • New armor sets added to starting mega station economy
  • A moon rocket worked on, flights to the moon tested
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Rental lot blueprint unloading has been improved
  • An issue where non-loaded rental lots crashed the editor on stopping the game has been fixed
  • Blueprints appearing inside already built objects has been fixed
  • When the client stops operating a ship in a despawn area, the ship now immediately despawns
  • Sitting issue with cradle mounted chairs has been fixed
  • SawTool sound effects have been implemented and bugs surrounding it have been fixed
  • Welding Tool beam effect has been refactored
  • Restriction added to detaching to station lots that the player has access to, so players can't detach whatever parts they want
  • The detachment network synchronization has been finished, the Welding Tool is now ready for testing
User Interface
  • An issue where ore processing made only one processed entry at a time has been fixed
  • Picking up magazines now moves ammo
  • An issue has been fixed where items disappeared from the sell list when the player sold 0 amount of the item
  • Position of the damaged item indicator has been fixed
  • Containers not filling up correctly when picking up ores fixed
  • Swapping and merging ores in the mining backpack works now as well as dragging between the bank tab and the mining slots
  • Snapping to closest possible bolt profile location, when within BoltToolComponent defined area has been implemented
  • Feedback Tool has been updated and the tool's data management has been refactored
Audio
  • Missing sort button sounds have been added
  • Item shop transaction button sounds and item sell menu button sounds have been added
Spaceship Designer
  • 'Continuous placement' option has been added for asset placement. Enabling this option allows the user to keep placing the asset until cancelled
  • A bug that allowed entering the test mode while undo actions were still being execute has been fixed
  • A Blueprint type metadata has been added to blueprints. This value can be used to filter blueprints, for example to display only ship or station blueprints
  • Some of Spaceship Designer's network messages unintentionally leaking to peers not inside the Spaceship Designer session has been fixed
  • A basic paint tool with point and click colouring has been added. The tool supports undoing and redoing
  • A client timeout when attempting to join a hosted session with a large map has been fixed
  • Save selection as blueprint functionality has been fixed
Planets
  • Moon terrain rock collisions have been optimized
Renderer
  • Planet hit detection for projectiles has been implemented
  • Skybox stretching during baking caused by direction blending has been fixed
[h3]Art[/h3] Stations
  • New signs for the frame shop at back alley are underway
  • Frame shop ad adjustments are in the making
  • Job instance effects for station use: proper UV's to the basic shapes so that UV scrolling can be used with them added as well as building blocks that can be used in the making of ads
  • Prospector shop module exterior decoration has been finalized
  • Station hall LODs have been updated
  • UV scroll support added to the flat font used in ads and signs
  • New windows added to station halls
  • Landing platform lighting in the making
  • LODs updated in ship repair maps
Animations
  • New animations and polishes to ads have been made
  • Pistol run animations have been polished
  • Sitting reload animation has been polished
  • An animation for the sell shop has been updated
Other
  • New asteroid clusters have been made
  • Bulwark armoset's textures and paintjobs have been polished
  • Modular Battery's socket location has been fixed
  • More weapon flat logos have been added to the game
  • Effects and beam types have been added to Welding Tool's attach/detach mode
  • New beam end models which could replace the particle effects have been tested
  • Dashed line effects have been made for ad use
  • Some armor set piece configs that did not allow the pieces to be dropped to the game world have been fixed
