Patch Notes & Double XP - Easter Weekend

Hey all,

Last week Deceit saw a record high of around 418,000 unique players partaking in the deception. This is something we're immensely proud of and would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has joined us both last week and throughout the years. As part of the Easter spirit, and to celebrate the aforementioned achievement, there will be a Double XP Weekend running from 12pm UTC Friday 10th to 12pm UTC Monday 13th.
General
• The random selection logic for picking players to be Infected has been updated. In this update we resolved an issue causing some players, especially in parties, to occasionally be heavily unlikely to be Infected. We have also improved the formula we used for randomisation.
 • Increased the number of Easter Points you earn from collecting Easter Eggs in-game.
 • Added a hideable interface on login to further explain the Easter Event.
 • Hid the Easter Event story progress on the Main Menu for those who don't own the Event Pass.
 • Updated the Easter Event interfaces to improve clarity around the Event Stash. For those that are unsure, the Event Stash is automatically added to your Easter Points upon purchase. Afterwards, any points added to your Stash are also automatically added to your Points.
 • Infected players in Terror Form are now able to destroy levers by swiping at them.
 • Added some temporary extra information within the Loot Booth to further clarify the change in last week's update. This most notably highlights that players will now earn 3 rewards per game and that the odds of finding rarer items have been increased.
 • Added support for navigating the profile, including the cosmetics, with your keyboard.
 • The chance of receiving Loot Booth Tokens as rewards from challenges has been altered to happen less often. This was an intended change for last week's update but didn't get released as expected. We're aware of feedback related to the recent changes around receiving tokens and will soon be discussing ways in which players can earn more through play.
Bug Fixes
• [FIXED] The Shotgun applies a large impulse to the objects it hits, sending them flying and allowing for cases of abuse.
 • [FIXED] Challenges in the Challenge History page show invalid text in the title. (Please note this will only apply for challenges completed after this update)
 • [FIXED] Various messaging in the UI regarding levelling up is outdated.
 • [FIXED] Non activatable challenges say "no empty slots" when hovering over their action button.
 • [FIXED] The End Game screen occasionally displays incorrect challenge progress.
 • [FIXED] The 'Processing Purchase' message doesn't shown upon clicking a product in the Store.

As a quick reminder, our Easter Event will continue to run until Thursday 23rd April, 10:30AM UTC. Players owning the Event Pass will still be able to complete their Easter Challenges all the way through to Thursday 30th April, 10:30AM UTC. During this period everyone will also still be able to use any remaining Event Tokens & Points they've accumulated. Any Event Tokens left over after this date will be automatically converted back to Standard Loot Booth Tokens.

Happy Hunting!

V4.6.0 - Easter 2020

What’s crackin’? We’re back with an eggcellent Easter event that’s quite a bit different to past seasonal events. From today through to Thursday 23rd April you’ll be able to earn brand new Easter-themed cosmetics through daily challenges. There are also new exclusive cosmetics available from the Easter Pass, which unlocks our first ever challenge story line! More details below.

We’d also like to take a moment to celebrate hitting 8 million Steam downloads! This is a huge achievement for us and we’re ecstatic that so many people enjoy playing Deceit. Thanks to your support so far this year we’ve been able to increase the number of updates coming to the game, and we’re looking forward to bringing lots more content throughout 2020!

Easter Points

When opening Deceit you will find the store has been updated, now also containing a selection of our new Easter cosmetics that can be purchased for Easter points. These points can be gained through a variety of methods: collecting eggs that will be spawning throughout the Asylum, Forest, Arctic & Mansion; earning them as rewards from daily challenges; completing special Easter challenges from the Event Pass; through the Event Stash; or through visiting the Loot Booth and using Easter tokens.

Easter Event Pass

The Easter Event Pass is unlocked by purchasing one of the two Easter Bundles from the Easter Store. In obtaining this pass you’re granted access to:
 • A brand new 20 challenge story line where you discover the existence of a mysterious and valuable egg from a shady individual. It’s your job to figure out who it’s rightful owner is and return it to them to earn exclusive rewards including 5 unique unlocks, 15 Easter Loot Booth Tokens, +50k Easter Points, a discount on certain Easter rewards, and +75k experience.
 • The ‘Event Stash’ - any bonus Easter Points from daily challenges, egg collection, and Easter loot booth tokens accumulate in your Event Stash. The event pass unlocks the stash meaning all points that are already in it and that are added going forward will go straight to your Easter Points to spend.

Easter Tokens

Similar to previous events, Easter tokens will be available to purchase from the store. When using these special tokens at the loot booth you’ll earn both Easter Points and Event Stash Points, as well as provide a chance at unlocking old Easter cosmetics from past events! These include:

 • Easter Watch
 • Chocolate Gun
 • Easter Terror T-shirt
 • ‘Eggshells’ Defeat Pose
 • ‘Eggcellent!’ Victory Pose
 • Carrot Knife
 • Bunny Terror
 • Bunny Ears

All seasonal tokens prior to 2019 have now been converted to regular loot booth tokens, and all unspent Halloween 2019, Christmas 2019, and Easter 2020 tokens will be converted to regular loot booth tokens 1 week after the end of the Easter event. Please also note: all tokens earned through regular challenges will be regular loot booth tokens.

Easter Rewards

All of the following rewards are purchasable through the store for Easter points for a limited time.

 • ‘Chocolate Swirl’ Emblem - 100 points
 • 3 Easter Loot Booth Tokens - 250 points (One time purchase)

Loot Booth & Store Upgrades

As part of this update, we’ve overhauled how the Loot Booth, GM Credits, and XP Boosts work. In order to improve the experience, the Loot Booth now requires 3 tokens to be used at a time. After the Game Master has shuffled the cups (which is now faster than before), you pick three of the cups and get the three rewards from those cups. We’ve also increased the frequency of uncommon, rare and legendary cups.

You can now obtain 100 GM Credits in exchange for a Loot Booth Token. XP boosts are now purchased by GM Credits. In addition to this, we’ve replaced the free token gained through levelling in-game with an introductory present of five free tokens for all new players. You’ll also receive some GM Credits when you level up and complete certain challenges.

This is the beginning of a number of changes we’re looking at making to improve the Deceit Store.

April 2020 Ranked Season

The new ranked season started on April 2nd and this season has a slight twist: in addition to the regular Gold, Silver, and Bronze coins that we give out to our top players, each of these groups will also receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze crown that they’ll be able to wear only for the next season. This will now be a fixed addition to our ranked rewards, so getting to the top of the leaderboards each season gives you something to flex and shout about!

Patch Notes
 • A tick will now display on the challenge chip effects list if an action has been done before and can’t be done again.
 • Voice chat for other players is now more visually obvious upon activation.
 • The Main Menu and End of Round scenes have been dressed up for the Easter event.
 • Several of our in-game translations have been updated thanks to our community translators.
 • The total amount of XP available to be earned from destroying levers has been limited.
 • Challenge rewards that are identical for both sides of a double Challenge will now be grouped together and shown as one reward item.
 • Further improved our metrics for identifying server problems.
 • Removed the 'Inspect X character' tasks from the daily challenges.
 • Challenges that need to be completed within one game will now display how far you got towards completing them on the End of Round screen.
 • Addressed several issues causing longer than usual queue times during peak hours.

Bug Fixes
 • [FIXED] Voice and text chat muting will incorrectly mute the wrong player.
 • [FIXED] A gold dot appears next to the “Challenge” button on the main menu even if there are no new actions for you to take.
 • [FIXED] The Alex Selfie Victory Pose doesn’t load in the Loot Booth rewards or show in the cosmetic selection screen.
 • [FIXED] The body of several Terror skins, including the default Vampire and the Demon Terror, don't load properly in Low Graphics Quality.
 • [FIXED] The hair of Hans and Nina fails to load properly in Low Graphics Quality.
 • [FIXED] Players with Hans or Nina selected as a default character whilst playing in Low Graphics Quality can get stuck in an infinite crash loop.
 • [FIXED] Several challenges are unable to be progressed.
 • [FIXED] Brazilian translations aren't usable in the game.
 • [FIXED] Players are able to set their in-game cosmetics to items that they don't own.
 • [FIXED] Releasing an update for just in-game translations causes the download to be unexpectedly large.
 • [FIXED] A significant performance issue in our backend server.

v4.5.0 - Challenge System

Hey all,

We're extremely excited to announce that with patch v4.5.0 comes one of the biggest updates to Deceit that has happened in a long time, and the first of many to come this year. Without further ado, let's get into it...

Challenge System
Overview
Challenges are composed from a set of tasks that, when completed, allow players to earn a variety of rewards including XP & rare Emblem unlocks. Starting with this update we'll be rolling out daily challenges, with further expansions planned for the near future. Challenges can be viewed, and activated, from the main menu. Once in-game, players can check what challenges they have active by using the 'Q' menu.
Challenge Slots
Starting from the moment you first play Deceit, players will unlock slots to place their challenges in. There are a total of 6 slots that one can unlock through levelling up, with the last slot being made available at level 50. In order to progress a challenge you must first activate it, putting it into an empty slot. Players can also opt to deactivate a challenge to free up that slot back up again. Deactivating a challenge will clear any progress made on it and will return it to the set of available challenges.
Challenge Types
There are two types of challenges, single and double. Single challenges are the most basic version, simply complete the set of tasks within the challenge to earn the reward. With double challenges there's a little more to it, tasks are split into "Innocent" and "Infected" sections. Tasks in these sections can only be progressed when you're playing as the associated team. Once you've completed the tasks under one team you're able to hand in the challenge to earn that team's rewards. Happen to prefer the other team's rewards? No problem. Completing both sides of the challenge enables you to choose which set of rewards you'd prefer.
Daily Challenges
Refreshing every day at midnight UTC, players will receive a collection of 8 challenges ranging from easy difficulty to very hard. These challenges are randomly generated from a set of tasks, combined to reach the required difficulty.

Provided you meet the required level, dailies can be activated from the main menu. This allows you to progress it and ensures it won't expire. Dailies that aren't activated will automatically expire at midnight, removing them from your list of available challenges. If you deactivate a challenge and it has passed its expiry time it will also be automatically removed.

Each daily has a randomly generated set of rewards with harder challenges offering better rewards. These currently include:
 • XP
 • GM Credits
 • Loot Booth Tokens
 • Challenge Chips

Along with the above there is also a unique emblem available to be unlocked per each challenge difficulty. The rarity of these emblems are as follows:
 • Easy - 1/100
 • Medium - 1/150
 • Hard - 1/200
 • Very Hard - 1/250
Challenge Chips
Challenge chips allow you to perform a set of actions on your daily challenges. You'll earn one of these per day, at the same time as your daily challenge regeneration, capping at 5. These can also be earned from challenges, earning them this way allows you to temporarily break the cap. Once you've got a challenge chip you can use it from within the main menu's challenge interface in order to:
 • Share - All other players in your game will automatically help you progress your challenges for you. You will still get the full reward from the challenge.
 • Boost - Automatically complete a challenge but only earn 50% of the XP reward and nothing else.
 • Reroll - Generate a replacement challenge with the exact same difficulty and expiry time.
 • Extend - Add 24h to the expiry time of the challenge.

Easter Event - Coming Next Week
Soon the Easter Bunny will be passing through to do their yearly collection of Easter eggs. Whilst they're here players will be able to acquire an array of new Easter-themed rewards through earning Easter points from finding eggs in-game, challenge rewards & the loot booth.

On top of the above we'll be using the new challenge system to bring those that opt into purchasing an Event Pass a brand new Easter storyline to be played through. As players progress along the story they will earn new, limited time, Easter-themed rewards, as well as extra Easter points to spend.

Those participating can expect to be able to acquire a hopping mad Yeti, Nina after a chocolate eating contest, Chang on the Easter Bunny's shoulders, and so much more. We'll also be putting the previous year's Easter cosmetics into the loot booth for players to obtain again.

Make sure you get online during the 2 week long event to grab what you can!

Patch Notes
 • Challenge stats have been added to the player profiles.
 • The character you're currently playing as is now shown at the bottom left of the screen.
 • Further improved our ability to identify, and debug, live server issues.
 • The Russian, Brazilian & Portuguese languages have been updated. Many thanks to the support from our community translation team for helping with this.
 • Added a Brazilian queue for matchmaking.

Bug Fixes
 • Player nametags will no longer overlap with the "Give Rep" screen at the end of the game.
 • Scanner results on the End of Round screen will now be accurate.
 • Resolved an issue that caused matchmaking to occasionally completely stop working. As part of this the matchmaking logic has been adjusted, resulting in slightly better matching.
 • New players will now correctly start at level 1, instead of 0.

Patch Notes - 19.03.2020
Chinese Servers
Today we're releasing an update to the Chinese region. We've noticed a large proportion of games in China fail to start and so we've updated our server infrastructure to support another cloud provider, this should allow for better connectivity for Chinese players.
Russian Localisation
We've improved our Russian translation.
Easter Event
We will be releasing an Easter event soon, stay tuned for more info next week!

Patch Notes - 12.03.2020
Server Infrastructure Improvements
Over the past few updates, we have been reworking our backend infrastructure in order to support a larger number of players online concurrently. You may have noticed over the past week that during certain periods of the day, you would be stuck on "Game Found" when attempting to queue for a game. This was normally due to there not being enough dedicated game servers available to deal with the number of games being started, and our infrastructure was not scaling quickly enough to deal with the demand. This update brings a overhaul of the infrastructure providing dedicated game servers, with the aim of improving the reliability and speed of starting games. We will be able to start more games concurrently and have the ability to scale faster than before.
General
• Cosmetics introduced in seasonal events will now display the release year & type of event that they came from. This can be seen in your cosmetics tab within your profile.
 • First time players will be randomly assigned a preferred character instead of being defaulted to Alex.
 • Added a new detection method to the anticheat and further refined existing methods.
Bug Fixes
• FIXED - Players can instantly place a trap down by performing an animation cancel.
 • FIXED - Redistribution users can pick up exploded traps.
 • FIXED - Terrors can perform multiple executions without the required amount of blood.
 • FIXED - Players downed in the gas gain blood from Revitalise when they are automatically revived.
 • FIXED - Character cosmetic changes in the main menu aren't replicated to other party members.
 • FIXED - Switching preferred characters in the main menu results in other party members seeing the default cosmetics for your new character.
 • FIXED - Players in-queue are incorrectly transitioned to 'Game Found' before a server is ready for them to use.
