Patch Notes - Alpha 1.23 (Experimental Build)

We’re releasing 1.23 onto our experimental branch today and would love some help checking it out. There have been a good deal of tweaks done to player weapons, animations, etc. Along with this we’ve added a new weapon the MK4 which will need a decent look over. Please report bugs and issues in game using the F1 menu. If you'd like to track the patch progress and follow more closely with development, check our changelog and please consider joining our Discord.

How to get into experimental branch:
  1. Open Steam and go to your games library.
  2. Right click on STN and select "Properties"
  3. Navigate to the "Betas" tab and select "experimental" in the drop down menu.
  4. Close the properties window.
  5. You will find a single experimental server titled EXPERIMENTAL_SERVER. Join this for some testing.

  • Crowd-in localization import
  • Improved FPS skin texture resolution

  • Added fire mechanism functionality for weapons that have the appropriate attachments.
  • Increased the fire rate of the Rauser.
  • Bullets now penetrate all surfaces more than before.
  • Inspect animation now cancels when initiating aim.
  • Improved firing animations for the FRKS shotgun
  • Added new MK4 weapon with full auto and burst fire capabilities.
  • Weapon attachments can now be visualized in the inventory as sub items.
  • Added the ability to add and remove attachments directly from the inventory page.
  • Added the ability to attach directly to equipped weapon.
  • Equipping from the inventory no longer closes the inventory.
  • Attaching to weapons from the “Search“ filter now works.
  • Added weapon cleaning and sharpening from the right click menu.
  • Tweaks to muzzle flash distortion materials to fix weird artifacts in all muzzle flashes

Devblog 64 - 1.23 Preview

We’ve been busy for some time now getting our ducks in order, fixing some rather boring backend and network stuff. We’ve also taken some time to begin a cleanup process on the actual project itself, in preparation for additional workshop implementation and future release.

Along the way, we have started the polish process and a big part of that is replacing some of our weapon models. The coming update will focus heavily on weapon improvements.

[h3]Weapons (Model Swaps and General Improvements)[/h3]
Model swaps aren’t a massive task but a rather tedious one and they can be very time consuming. Andre has made some great progress and we’ve swapped out (4) of our current models. The Rauser Rig (9mm), FRKS (auto shotgun), R-6804 (sniper), lola and gary (.45) and The Bateman.

Along with these model swaps we’ve made improvements to animations and animation timings. Speeding things like reloads up just enough to make general gameplay feel more fluid. We’ve introduced new audio sets for quite a few of our weapons as well, they sounds much more lively especially the Bateman! :)

[h3]Weapon Attachments[/h3]
Along with the additions of these new models we’ll be improving attachment versatility. Basically if it fits, you’ll be able to put it on the weapon (for the most part). Included with the expansion on what weapons attachments can be used on we’ll be introducing two new attachments.

Full automatic firing mechanisms will now spawn for some of the weapons in our game. The Rauser Rig, ARG15 and the FRKS will get the option to accept a fully automatic mechanism. The Rauser Rig and the ARG will also receive burst fire attachments.

[h3]Inventory Improvements (Weapon Attachments)[/h3]
We’ve been working on inventory improvements and the next build will feature some really nice ones. The biggest addition here is the ability to quickly view, add and remove weapon attachments right on the right side inventory page (main tab).

Patch Notes - Hotfix 1.22.3

We’re releasing a nice little hot fix today to default. Check fixes against the changelog below.

[h3]New Scenarios[/h3]
Call of Duty Nazi Zombie Scenario

The second scenario is a bit more fun. It’s our take on what was a big inspiration for Survive the Nights, Call of Duty World at War’s Nazi Zombie mode. The addition of a continuous horde option allows us to basically create a wave based game.

We’ve designed a new UI system to display what wave you’re currently fighting. You’ll see the tally marks in the bottom left hand side of the screen. You’ll also notice a start/end sound when waves come and go. You should also notice the zombies in this mode have glowing eyes!

This completely changes the entire standard gameplay to a fast paced arcade style game mode. You start out in a well stocked and semi-fortified structure. You and your friends will be tasked with surviving as many hordes as possible before you all eventually succumb to the inevitable :) Big talk from us considering we’ve not made it beyond wave 8!

Waves start within a minute or so of the first players spawn in. Players will have just a bit of time to stock up and get ready for what’s to come. You will have around 35 seconds between waves to throw a couple of boards up and prepare for the next onslaught.

As with all of our scenarios, feel free to tweak settings to your liking. We can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Nazi Zombie Scenario

Night of the Living Dead Scenario
Another massive inspiration for Survive the Nights has be George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. This scenario takes place on a well stocked farm, you’ll have the day to prepare for an intense and massive night horde. This scenario also features walkers only to more closely replicate Romero’s zombies.

  • Walkers only
  • Large nightly wave (horde level 15)
  • Well stocked and fortified structure
  • Weapons provided


NoTLD Scenario

[h3]New Player Tutorial[/h3]
We’re adding an official new player tutorial. This tutorial should be the first world new players check out. It provides a default setup and forces the tutorial on (most private servers have this off). The tutorial worlds allows players to learn basic gameplay mechanics in a semi-controlled environment.

  • Spawn in a farm house on west side of island
  • Resource on the property for tutorial complete
  • Near by car lot

  • Fix for issue where plant type wasn’t set on server causing potential problems with not growing
  • Fix for double "plant" and "water" in inventory buttons
  • Fix for missing harvest and water buttons on the plant pots
  • Increased time window where plants can grow
  • Increased chance of growing in the winter and small general increase
  • Seeds now always returned when harvesting ungrown plant
  • Fix for issue where plant type wasn’t set on server causing potation problems with not growing
  • Fix for double "plant" and "water" in inventory buttons
  • Fix for missing harvest and water buttons on the plant pots
  • Increased time window where plants can grow
  • Increased chance of growing in the winter and small general increase
