Cumulative patch notes 17 December 2019

I made a bunch of fixes over the last week or so, and also added some new content and other changes. Here's a summary. Please let me know if you're still seeing any problems.
  • Two mouse icons appeared on screen, possibly due to multiple menus loading at once. Game now double-checks menus and closes any extras. Please report this bug if you're still seeing it.
  • Several battle maps allowed ranged attacks through buildings and trees. Please let me know if you see any ranged attacks that look like they should be blocked.
  • Computer-controlled enemies now will use ranged attacks on player-controlled gates and other obstacles.
  • Camera would stay stuck at top of pyramid when returning from Shadowlands back to Pyramid Gate. Camera now moves to base of pyramid so you can see your character.
  • Equipment list was not scrolling after going to next character. Equipment list should now scroll as intended on subsequent characters.
  • Vendors behind counters would not detect player's approach. Their collision check is now wider and welcome dialog and speech option should now trigger when player approaches counter.
  • Added kimonos and geisha hair options for Yamatai NPCs. More kimono-wearing NPCs coming soon.
  • Background elements on various maps would turn translucent as though the player had walked behind them. Background elements should now stay opaque. Please let me know if you notice any other unwanted meshes turning translucent.
  • Character order in pause menu would change when clicking on a character without dragging to new position. Characters should now stay put unless intentionally dragged to new position.
  • Mouse-over info popup in supply shop menu had a localization problem where alternate font text boxes were not hiding, creating hard-to-read pile of text. Alternate font text boxes should now be hidden, and the window should be readable now.
  • Going from character sheet to equipment menu, to next character (in equipment menu), then back to character sheet, would mistakenly show the original character's level-up status. Character sheet now shows correct character's level-up status.
  • Next character desyncs when navigating from character sheet to equipment, to next character, then back to character sheet. Clicking next character again would have reloaded same character. Next characters are now synced correctly whether navigating via character sheet or equipment menu.
  • In equipment menu, going to next character did not load the new character's default action in the optimize drop-down. The optimize drop-down now shows the correct default action when a new character is selected.

I'm still working my way through the bugs you've reported. I'll add Ur Runes and Mithril Bars to loot drops and adjust encounter difficulty in the Icy Reach region soon. And there are more optimizations, fixes, and content additions in the works too. I'll be back with more updates soon!

Start of controller support today!

We finally fixed Steam Input today, allowing Himeko Sutori to accept input from all controllers. We still recommend mouse and keyboard for a large-scale strategy game such as this, but for those of you who really want to play in front of your TV (or for other reasons can't use mouse and keyboard), you can play the game fully with just a controller.

We can't advertise "full support" for controllers just yet because we still use the controller to mimic some mouse and keyboard inputs, and we haven't integrated controller icons into the tutorial. In true Early Access spirit, we still wanted to get this build out to you as soon as possible, and we will fix those other issues in future builds.

Right now, there is only an Xbox template, but it should be accessible to everyone regardless of your controller type. Those of you who have PlayStation or Steam controllers can copy the default Xbox template and adjust it for your own controllers. And when you do, would you mind sharing your setups with everyone else?

Thank you everyone for your ongoing support for Himeko Sutori. We still have many more plans for the game and we are glad to be working on it for you. We'll be back soon with more updates.

Upcoming controller support

Hi everyone! I just wanted to take a moment and let you know about our upcoming full controller support. We will be uploading a big patch very soon, thanks in large part to help from the devs of Depth, the exciting modern classic of shark-versus-diver combat. Their game is fantastic, and it's on sale right now. If you don't own it yet, you should check it out.

And if you liked Depth, you should also check out their follow-up Last Tide, now in Early Access.

We will be back soon with more details on Steam Input and controller support.

Patch notes 17 November 2019

Hey everyone! Here are the cumulative changes for the last few days:

  • Improved ledge avoidance: You should be able to avoid falling off most ledges now.
  • Camera smoothing: Vertical camera movement is now smoothed, so it won't be so jerky when your character walks over obstacles and rough terrain.
  • Improved followers: Follower movement is now snappier, and your followers no longer drift after they're supposed to stop.
  • Lance menu: Escape button wasn't navigating you out of all submenus. It should do so now.
  • Hiring new soldiers: The "how many" slider said it started at 1, but the price shown was for 0. The slider and price are now fixed.
  • New music: Added Kevin's latest track to the Yamatai region.
  • Sewer boss fight: There was a bug in the cutscene that could make the enemies appear too early. That has been fixed.
  • Tutorial cutscene: It was possible to move during the tutorial dialog, possibly causing Aya to stay kneeling. Movement now activates at the intended time.
  • Faster combat popups: Combat popups had been causing tiny but frequent performance hiccups. I've streamlined them so they should appear much faster now, with no noticeable performance changes.
  • Localization improvements: Greatly expanded Japanese support. Also, if you change the language in-game, you can now use the editor in that language.

If you notice any bugs related to these changes, or any other bugs, please let me know right away. Thanks!

Start of Localization!

Hey everyone! We've been adding content and fixing bugs as usual. But today we started something new. We now have the very beginning of localization for Himeko Sutori!

There's not much to it yet. We just have a file where the game can look up a few terms in different languages. We haven't even filled in any of the languages yet. But if you'd like to show off your translation skills, we would love to get your help!

In your Steam Library, in Himeko Sutori\\RPGTacGame\\Config, there's a file called RPGTacLocalization.ini. There are a few terms under the ENG section. If you'd like to add localization for your language, you can copy everything under ENG, paste it under another language, and edit each line's LocalizedText. You can see an example where I copied the ENG lines under JPN and replaced the LocalizedText with ___. Whenever you're done, please email your RPGTacLocalization.ini file to [email protected].

Localizing the game is not our primary focus yet, but since we've had some people volunteer their help, we decided to add a way for you to contribute while we keep working on the game. We'll be adding more terms as we go. And eventually we're going to figure out another solution for all of the dialog, item descriptions, cards, and all the other text in the game. We'll keep you posted!
