Folklore Hunter 0.7

Hello hunters!

Time for another update, this time around we have spent a lot of time expanding and updating the Bloodfang map with new locations, clues, and discoveries to be unearthed. There are also many more features including a visual overhaul for the Strigoi (spoiler tag below). Also included are a bunch of bug fixes and quality of life fixes. Hope you enjoy!

  • Story and gameplay overhaul
  • Creation mechanic for new items
  • More than double the number of discoverable locations
  • Additional detail added to village
  • Five new clues to find

[h3]Strigoi[/h3]
  • Complete visual overhaul
  • New custom animations
  • Additional combat abilities
  • Will now dynamically avoid sunlight

[h3]Weapons[/h3]
  • Rifle hipfiring accuracy improved
  • Crossbow accuracy improved
  • Ammo is now much more common from crates
  • Ammo can be found in discoverable locations more often
  • Crosshair now disappears when aiming down sights

  • Suite of new attacks and abilities for the Strigoi
  • AI will prioritize bridges over water
  • AI should no longer wander into rivers

[h3]Misc[/h3]
  • Notification sound effect
  • Adjusted flashlight distance and intensity
  • When picking up new items, they will try to enter the players hotbar first, then the inventory if no hotbar slot is available
  • Fire now hurts players
  • Added functionality and effects to lamps
  • Ambient sounds now quieter and less frequent
  • Removed old items made obsolete

  • NOTW terrain adjusted to stop players getting permanently stuck
  • Patched holes in NOTW cave system
  • Bloodfang trees no longer bright in darkness
  • Wooden materials now generate wood footstep audio
  • Sunlight will no longer appear through Bloodfang Forest village houses
  • Damage no longer stops interaction highlight
  • Rain no longer hits invisible roof above player
  • Fixed circle of crates
  • Fixed ammo bug when holding two of the same weapon
  • Nametags no longer visible when aiming down sights
  • Fixed bug that caused beartraps to fly when garlic is placed on them
  • Bloodfang Village ceilings no longer trap players
  • Fixed holes underneath village paths
  • Fixed bug causing sprinting to disable aiming down sight permanently

Folklore Hunter 0.6

Hello hunters!

Time for another update, this time around we have some new awesome features including a new weapon, stealth system and the much requested voice chat! Also included are a bunch of bug fixes and quality of life fixes. Hope you enjoy!



Also, a few people have been wondering why the update frequency is a little slower as of late. This is due to most of the development time being spent on finishing off the Bloodfang Forest hunt. Many of the changes made to this hunt still live in the development version of the game and will be released all at once. To keep you all in the loop we have completely redesigned the look and behavior of the Strigoi (vampires) and redesigned the gameplay and story from the ground up. This was a monumental undertaking but progress has been steady and the content is almost complete. I'm hoping to have this finished and released within the next month so stay tuned for that!

  • Added proximity based voice chat. Default is push to talk on the V key, but can be changed in the options menu. There may still be some instability with the voice chat that can be fixed in future updates after player feedback has been collated.
  • Added new crossbow weapon available in Bloodfang Forest.
  • Added fall damage.
  • Added stealth system that allows the player to hide from creatures and monitor their visibility. Keep in mind turning on your flashlight at nighttime is very easy to see...
  • Added ability for player to crouch which reduces their visibility.
  • Added new clues to cave system in Night of the Wendigo to help players find their way out easier.
  • Added "Toggle Sprint" setting to the options menu under controls.
  • Some interactions now take time to perform such as opening a crate or helping up a downed player.
  • Fixed bug that caused infinite ammo as a client.
  • Fixed bug that caused equipment to be shown floating after a player was downed.
  • Fixed cave geometry issue that allowed players to fall through the roof of the cave in the Night of the Wendigo map.
  • Fixed UI issue that made some inventory slots unclickable on smaller screen sizes.
  • Fixed some decals rendering onto player in Bloodfang Forest.
  • Fixed issue that caused hotbar item count and inventory item counts to become out of sync.
  • Fixed mouse sensitivity slider not working in the options menu.

Folklore Hunter 0.5e - Hotfix

Hi guys, there were a few issues with the latest update brought to my attention so I have put together a small hotfix to address these problems.

[h3]Changelog[/h3]
  • Fixed spamming escape to skip the intro cause the game to soft-lock and never recover.
  • Fixed aggression and pathfinding issues with the Wendigo introduced in the latest update.
  • Fixed various bodies of water not rendering on lower graphics settings.
  • Fixed not being able to place items when close to one of the new 'point of interest' markers (the question marks on the map).

Folklore Hunter 0.5d

Hi guys, time for another update! This time my focus has been on hardening and bugfixes. I've been working very hard over the last few weeks to fix as many issues as possible and add a few new quality of life changes. There is also a few sneaky changes to the wendigo and some of the AI, so keep an eye out!

  • Wendigo now has a few new tricks up its sleeve ;)
  • Wendigo is now baited by meat
  • The cabin door can now be opened and closed
  • Added player health-bar
  • Player damage is now balanced based on how many players are in the game
  • Important locations are now marked on the map as question marks
  • Lowered default volume of heavy breathing from 100 to 20
  • Can now skip ending cutsequences
  • Fixed skip sometimes not working during into sequences
  • New sound effects for wendigo
  • Added new grave digging mechanics to Bloodfang forest
  • Added new dragging system in Bloodfang forest
  • Player is no longer always holding the rifle and will now hold whatever is selected in the hot-bar slot
  • Added new character animations for various items
  • Added a 'Return to Menu' option in the settings menu
  • Fixed game not pausing when opening the settings menu in single-player
  • Added quit confirmation when exiting to menu or exiting the game
  • Player can now get temporarily stuck in traps
  • Cloud cover and weather are now synced in multiplayer

  • Can now hear in-game audio when alt-tabbed
  • Game now runs at full framerate when alt-tabbed
  • Prevented the game from trying to run in VR mode when an oculus is connected
  • Can now only get charcoal from fires if you have less than 10 in your inventory
  • Altered dawn and dusk lighting in Bloodfang forest to make it less pink
  • Fixed deer sometimes not running away
  • Fixed deer all ending up in one corner of the map in Night of the Wendigo map
  • Altered flashlight location to fix light being visible in players head in third person

Folklore Hunter 0.5c

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed updates recently I have been moving house. Anyways, I have had a lot of requests for a way to rebind your keys so I've completely remade the in-game settings menu. I'm happy to announce that you now have re-bindable keys and proper volume control! I've also added a weather system so every now and then you may experience a rainstorm.

  • Added new settings menu with rebindable controls.
  • Most sounds should now obey the new audio control settings.
  • Fixed various lighting issues, especially with the paths in the Wendigo hunt.
  • Added fully dynamic weather that will activate based on the cloud density.
  • Various alterations to make AI behave slightly differently based on the weather conditions.
  • Lots of behind the scenes code refactoring in preparation for new Weapons and meta game mechanics.
