Smalland Community Update (News, in-engine sneak peak and concept art)



Hey everyone!


From everyone here at Merge Games, we would just like to begin by saying we really appreciate the community's patience since the Merge team took over the development of Smalland. We've been working incredibly hard over the past 12 months to build a super talented team to make Smalland the epic experience you all want to be.

While we have not been able to share much until this point, we're extremely excited to say we are now in a position to begin sharing more content updates about the game, starting with some early in-engine images and concept art!

We'll now be providing regular updates to development progress, as well as new concept art and screenshots as you follow the development cycle with us going forward. We know there's an extremely passionate community out there for Smalland, and we're glad we're now in a position to share some images and gifs of the title in it's early stages of development.



In Smalland, we want you to be able to explore and discover a living, breathing world from a miniature perspective. Jump, swing, glide and fly from enormous heights, across an immersive day and night cycle through all four seasons.

These initial gifs just give a small taster into base building, customisation and ways you can travel the world. Over the next few months we'll be giving you a deeper dive into the world of Smalland with new areas that we're working on!



Roadmap Ahead


Over the next few months we'll be sharing new concept art, insights, gifs and information across a number of different areas of the game in the early stages of development! Across July and August you'll be getting a sneak peak into

[h2]Creatures[/h2]
Get ready to take charge of a diverse array of insects and mammals, and either ride them across the land, or take to the skies! Soon we'll be showcasing some imagery of one of the biggest creatures you'll be able fly across the world with!

[h2]Base Building[/h2]
Base building is vital for survival as you play either alone or with friends. Build shelters and structures to help hide and protect you, as well as to have a perfect spot to craft a wealth of resources! We'll soon be showcasing some early construction concept art and images of some of the base building elements.

[h2]The World [/h2]
The world of Smalland is dynamic and ever changing. Soon we'll be giving you an insight into how the different seasons effect creature behaviour and resources. Each season has different rewards and dangers... get ready for a sneak peak into the world and how it evolves over time.

[h2]Weapons & Armour [/h2]
From either hunting or working alongside different creatures or taking part in PVE events and teaming up against dangerous foes, crafting weapons, armour, and tools to prepare and protect yourself is extremely important. Soon we'll be showcasing some of the weapons and armour in more detail!

Smalland: The Road Ahead – Merge Games

It’s with great excitement that I can tell you that Merge, a games publisher based in the UK, has taken over Smalland as a project. 

Merge’s team has kicked off production so that we can realise the scope and ambition of this very exciting game.

Merge’s involvement in Smalland is still relatively new and there is lots of work to be done. For this reason, the Smalland channels will be pretty quiet for a few months while we start afresh in our mission to deliver the best possible Smalland experience. 

So please keep an eye out for news later in the year, and in the meantime, we thank you for your continued support, patience and dedication to Smalland.

Who is Merge Games?

Merge is a games publisher based in Manchester, UK. We have been working with Indie developers now for nearly ten years. We publish under Merge Games and sell collectable indie games through Signature Edition. 
 
I have invested in the game via Indiegogo, will my rewards be honoured?

We fully intend to deliver all Indiegogo rewards. They may not be exactly the same as those listed, but we will make sure that the financial contributions people made will not go unrewarded. 
 
Where will you communicate news when you have it?

We’ll be communicating mostly through Discord, Steam and direct to Indiegogo backers. In the short term we’ll be going relatively quiet whilst we get our heads into the project.
 
When will Smalland be out?

We’ll announce this as soon as we can. 
 
What formats will Smalland come out on?

At the moment we are targeting PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch however, it is early days and we are sure that the landscape for consoles will change over the next 12 months or so, so please watch this space! 

Game update

Hey everyone!

Our apologies for the late update, due to some miscommunication the update was pushed back. A lot of you have been wondering about an ETA (or estimated time of arrival) for Smalland. You can expect the early access release of the game to launch in about 8-12 months. This estimate is subject to change as the game is only around 40-50% completed; the base of the game is done, but there is still more to be worked on.
Funding is being worked on, but no other information can be given at this time. However once funding is completed, more information on the matter will be given along with establishing an update schedule that is going to be either bi-weekly or weekly; future updates may address questions that are commonly asked that aren't already in the new FAQ channel, in game asset exploration, along with new information regarding the game.
For all of you backers, you will be delighted to hear that a closed alpha will be made available to you sometime in the summer as well!

An update

Hey everyone,

We are aware of the lack of communication that has been going on in this period and I most sincerely apologize, I neglected its importance. Things got very rough with all the issues I encountered during the endeavour of finding a new publisher and I have been slammed with e-mails and have been employing most of my time in pitching the game. That being said, I promise that there will be a drastic improvement in communication from now on. I'm also working on a road map along with other things that will allow you guys to track the project's progress.
Regarding the deletion of some messages, I'm doing it with the best of intentions for the project's good and would like to keep this topic away from being open on Discord or Steam. By that I mean, that publicly spreading the (partial/incomplete) information contained in Sid's video can only harm the project and its image in a moment of weakness such as this. For any concerns regarding the matters at hand, just DM me and I'd be more than happy to clarify them.
Given that I'm handling a lot of things right now I can't immediately write down the reply answer to each point mentioned in that video, however, expect this to happen in the upcoming days.

This project really means so much to us, and I want to thank all of you out there that have supported and will keep supporting it.
