Phoenix Point tips and tricks

Phoenix Point has been a contentious game since it released on December 3, 2019. Created by the original designer of the X-COM series, Julian Gollop, the tactical/strategic hybrid definitely leans on some of the hardest underpinnings of the original title while giving the nod to innovations brought by Firaxis Games in the XCOM reboot.

Released exclusively on the Epic Games Store for a year, divisions were already running high although some of that will have been mitigated now thanks to the game's release on Steam via the Year One Edition.

Our Phoenix Point review picked up on some notable bugs and balance issues, although there has been a lot of improvements to the game over the past year - and several expansions to boot. It's an experience that will benefit from ongoing discussions of strategic deployment, tactical nuance, and general exploration. Luckily for you, we're here to provide you with some basic tips and tricks to help you navigate this familiar - and yet at the same time, strange - turn-based strategy game.

What's New In Phoenix Point: Year One Edition?

In addition to all of our released DLC to date included with Phoenix Point: Year One Edition, the December 3rd release of the game on Steam will also include our newest content update: POLARIS. Polaris brings players, among other things, a brand new, tutorial prologue that introduces new characters, cinematics, and maps while teaching core aspects of how to play Phoenix Point.

Additionally, Phoenix soldiers gain a stronger identity with all-new equipment. Research these new weapons and take the fight to the enemy in different ways, including wielding a riot shield against ranged threats, bringing the pain with an Assault-class grenade launcher, or choosing quantity over punch with a smaller caliber, but more accurate, heavy cannon that shoots multiple rounds.

Year One Edition also includes a redesigned Home Screen that allows players to stay up to date (and to access special in-game content) as well as a robust contextual pop-up help system integrated throughout the entire game and a slew of gameplay tweaks and updates based on community feedback.

We look forward to hearing your feedback when Year One Edition and the Polaris update release on December 3rd!
