Dev Diary: Roadmap update!

Hello all!
After Christmas, we took some weeks off the Dev Diary routine to chart our roadmap for Killsquad. With that process now done, we’re ready to begin telling you what we are working on. Here we go!
Optimization & Asia
We have received comments that Killsquad’s framerate is lower than it should: framerate drops, difficulty running the game in some hardware… this is especially true for our fans in Asia (Korea and China mostly). Many of you are playing Killsquad in Net-Cafés, which we love. But sometimes the framerate is low. So, we have one team optimizing the game for performance. You’ve seen some of this already on the recent Hotfix, but more is coming on the next major update. Expect a more fluid experience across all machines. This has the side benefit of helping a console version as well (more on this later!)
Crashes, bugs, stability
In 2020, we had a game we needed to fix: there were systems still to be implemented or missing, so our focus was on the gameplay. Sales during Christimas 2020 have proven Killsquad is becoming a pretty good game. But that has introduced many bugs. We have a second team just focused on crashes, bugs, etc. Again, you saw some of their work on the Hotfix last week, but expect a push to polish the game so there’s no bugs at all.
Usability & UI
Killsquad’s interface has been steadily growing as more systems were added: gadgets, talismans, portraits, cosmetics, quests… as a consequence of that, let’s say the interface is nowhere as logical or intuitive as it should be: some sections are out of place, some are hard to find. So, we are working on a full UI revision, to make sure things are as intuitive as possible. We’ll promote some sections, remove old ones, and make sure the interface works for you, not against you.
Skua
The three points above are all about Quality of Life. And Quality of Life is super important. But so is content. So, we confirm on the next update you are getting Skua, a full new world with its own contracts, quests and enemies. Skua is the space station where the Feds build and train their army of robots, so it can move across the galaxy conquering rogue planets. Expect Skua to drop during spring, in a mega-update that will include also all of the other things mentioned above.
Playstation? Yes! Playstation
We are working on Killsquad for Playstation. There, we said it. Expect it to drop summer this year, both on Ps4 and Ps5. We have always loved this kind of A-RPG on console, from Helldivers to Gauntlet to Alien Nation, and we wanted to be there. The port is almost done, we just need to optimize it and rework some network systems. But yes, Killsquad is coming to console. There’s no plans for other consoles outside of Playstation that we can confirm at this point.
And more!
And that’s not all. We’re working on an opening cinematic. We’re seriously thinking about progression changes to make the game more fun for longer. We’re working on new cosmetics. We have a lot of things we want to share with you all. 2021 is gonna be a great year!

Dev Diary: Happy New Year!

We hope you guys had a blast these holidays, and got to spend some time with friends and family. We are happy to see many of you chose Killsquad as your end-of-Year companion! We saw a nice boost in sales, so THANK YOU. Because of you, Killsquad is now on the verge of crossing the 100.000 copies sold mark, not bad at all considering we're still in Early Access. We're happy. And, if we made your holidays more enjoyable, what else could we expect?

Now, back to work! As you know, being in Early Access, and work never stops. Every Friday, around 6 PM CET, we will bring you our Developer Diary, with fresh news straight from the dev team.

This week I am going to share some sneak peek, early clips of Skua, our next world. Skua is an orbital space station, where the Federation does robot R+D. Not that the Federation cares about killing human soldiers. You've met (and killed them) already. Skua was all about a Federation-wide effort to cut costs. Why send the children of the Federation to fight against the Killsquad, when you can mass-produce an army of robotic soldiers?

So, expect to enter a giant space factory / warehouse / robotic R+D facility. And expect to explore new locations, meet new foes, semibosses, contracts... Skua will drop in our next major update, due in Spring. But for now, here's a first look at the environment. It's still unlit, but it's slowly building up inside Unreal Engine:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Skua comes with its own set of enemies and tactics. So for example, check out this healing robot. Whenever a team-mate falls, he'll scramble to the rescue with electro-shock. So, make sure you take these guys down first, or they will regen fallen team mates to cause endless trouble:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Skua also is all about ambush and surprise. We're working on some cool new ways to make enemies appear. Here's a very early clip of what we are working on, we hope you like it:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Last, but not least, we'd like to confirm we are working on a Hotfix, due shortly. To everyone posting bugs on Steam/Discord/reviews: we are listening, and working on them. In the short, short term, you should receive:

- A fix to the "game is too dark" issue
- A fix to the "Zero's traps kill FPS", especifically the Trap Implosion & Wave Trap.
- Some bugs on some Quests that don't fulfill when they should.

The next months are going to see us devoting a LOT of time to bug fixing, as we want to slowly stabilize the game to give you the best experience.

So there is a ton of work ahead, but we're back. Expect news every Friday, as our next update takes shape. Meanwhile, remember you can always reach us on Steam discussion forums or, if you prefer that, in our official Discord Server

See you guys! Thank you for playing Killsquad!
