Update 4492: The Winter Solstice Update, Bigger Shop Size and New Objectives HUD

Hello Shopkeepers!

With the end of the year in sight, we're all preparing for some family time and wondrous feasts of any kind. But although the end of the year may be in sight now, the past few weeks we've been hard at work on presents to give to you in the form of a new update. This is our biggest update yet, and we genuinely hope you will like it all. As the holidays are fast approaching, give yourself the gift of some time for yourself. Perhaps play some Winkeltje and have a nice big mug of a beverage of your choice. And although it might still be a little early, from all of us at Sassybot, we would like to wish you all happy holidays and a profitable new year!

Update Highlights

In this update we add a fine selection of warm cozy Winter decorations, these are sure to make your shop feel all warm and ready for the Winter and new Winter Solstice event. New carpets, lanterns, solstice decorations and fireplaces add up to a grand total of 10 new ways to cozy up your shop!

Double wide walls give you even more freedom when creating your shop, with the first type of item being a Wide Archways for each set, we've got some cool stuff planned for this feature, but didn't want to keep you all waiting.

Objectives play a big part in the game and now they too have had their looks updated and code upgraded. New progress meters, a new way of tasks lighting up, a new deadline meter, new prioritization and overall a new look, make the objectives a lot clearer. A new deadline meter will tell you just how much time you have left for your objective. Deadline objectives are now properly pushed to the top of the objectives list, so you can always keep an eye on them and won't accidentally end up missing their completion date. New animations cause new objectives to drop from above and cause them to get crossed off on completion. There are also a lot of under the hood changes which will make displaying objectives easier for us, so you can expect some nice new stuff there in the future.

Of course as always, we're interested in knowing what you think of this update, so feel free to let us know what you think of it in the comments. Or join the Discord (https://discord.gg/ZSMEenk) where you can talk with us and the rest of the community, and where you can sneak a peek at the change logs as the game is being made.

Update 4273: New Main Menu, New Planters, Shop Naming, and bug fixes.

Greetings Shopkeepers!

Over the past weeks we've settled into the new office, getting familiar with the new environment and conquering the different trials that come with it. Now just as we've settled in and with production getting into full swing again, it is time for another update. So take some time for yourself, start up a relaxing session of Winkeltje and just enjoy the season from the inside for a bit. Now, if you were to ask me, I would say that sounds like a lovely time, wouldn't you?

Update Highlights

This update brings 2 new kitchen planters for you to place. This should give some more variety to your shop's gardens because they can only be placed outside, but they will be cheaper as a result of that. Now you can finally create the kitchen garden of your dreams in Winkeltje.

Whenever you first open your shop after this update, you will be presented with a pop up, here you can give your shop a name. This name will be used as your shop's save name, so you can more easily identify which of your many shops is which.

The Main Menu is the first thing everyone sees when they start the game, but as we've been updating the UI, the Main Menu has been lagging behind on that. Now with this update the Main Menu gets its share of love and care. With a new style and completely remade the New Game and Load Game windows add many quality of life improvements. The New Game window has a new selector for the difficulties, showing all the options without having to use a slider. Hovering over them will show exactly how the difficulty is different. The Load Game window now allows for more than 3 saves and selecting an entry shows a screenshot of the shop, the shop name, difficulty, the in game day and season, when it was saved and which version it was saved in. Note: That screenshots won't appear just yet for older saves, a shop will have to be loaded and then saved for the screenshot to appear.

Decoration rebalance
The decoration rebalance was planned long ago as we were adding more and more decoration pieces, but now it's finally here. With this update the appeal value will be determined through a variety of factors; the area the decoration piece occupies, if it's wall mounted, if it's a carpet or if the decoration piece is for outside. Of course you want to get what you pay for, so the price of each decoration piece is now calculated based on the appeal worth of the piece. As with the item rebalance, the decoration rebalance has gone through testing on the unstable branch, but balancing is an ongoing process and we are always looking for feedback. So please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know what you think of it!

  • User Interface - Event overview description now correctly uses the description from the event script.
  • User Interface - UI now starts at scale 1 (tiny) when a player first opens the game.
  • User Interface - Hovering a planter and going to the game menu would not reset the cursor to the correct graphic.

Update 4182: Autumn update

Happy Autumn Shopkeepers!

This week we moved offices, and while our move is still ongoing and we're busy settling in, we just didn't want to pass up the chance to share this new Autumn update with you all. Because with Autumn in full swing now with its windy and wet weather, what better way to enjoy it than from a dry and toasty place with some new Autumn themed goodies. That sounds like a wonderful time to me, honestly.

Update Highlights

4 new autumn and 4 banner decorations have been added to the game to cozy up the place. These can be unlocked through new objectives that will activate each Autumn. They can only be completed in Autumn, but don't worry if you don't complete it in time, there will always be a next autumn to try unlocking them. If you do complete them, you can repeat the objectives and get some additional rewards.

The Level and Appeal bar get an update in this installment of the UI overhaul adventure. The day length bar is gone, but you will now be able to track the progress of the day with a clock. Extra accents and animations are added to when events appear, so it's even clearer when a new event starts and notifications light up. A much requested feature was being able to tell for how long events will be active for, with this update, you will be able to do just that for events that have a set length. You can see when events are starting up, when they are in full swing and when things are returning to normal. Some events however, you will just not know how long they will take.

7 new events have been added to the game, to add even more variety and a new harvest day has been added to Autumn. Furthermore the Shopping nights now no longer happen randomly but instead happen regularly on the last day of the season.

Item rebalance

2 updates ago we introduced a crafting unlock choice with which you could now pick which crafting profession you wished to unlock in whichever order you wished. Items however were balanced according to a specific path, this update brings a big item rebalance with it, that will make all crafting professions equally profitable. Some items now require different or a different amount ingredients to make. This has gone through testing on the unstable branch, but balancing is an ongoing process and we are always looking for feedback. So please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know what you think of it!

Update 4078 + Hotfix 4087: Settings, Click to Move and Crafting Decorations

Greetings Shopkeepers!

Autumn has truly begun now and that means sitting inside with your preferred hot beverage, while the customers come rolling in or while crafting your next masterpiece. Just lovely.

For a long time now, a highly requested feature was Click to Move, in this update you can now finally move just with your mouse. Click on a destination and you will walk there, or hold the mouse button to move in the direction of the mouse pointer. This feature can be enabled in the Settings menu (Settings -> Gameplay -> Accessibility).

We need your feedback to improve this feature, so don't hesitate to get in touch with us!

Update Highlights

For the second update of the UI overhaul, we have tackled the settings menu, here you will find all new graphics, audio and gameplay options and some old and trusted ones! All with a shiny new look.
A major addition is the addition of a controls tab, here you can find all of the controls for keyboard and controller, accompanied with a convenient category drop down for context based controls.

6 wonderful new crafting decorations have been added to the game, 2 for each profession. You can unlocked these by completing objectives accompanying the corresponding profession. These will really add some style to your shop!

Returning players

Last update we updated the engine for Winkeltje. If you took a break and haven't played since before Update 3818, but now decide you want to open up shop again there will be incompatibilities with any previous saves you've had. But all is not lost! Included in Update 3906 is a save converter which will convert your shop save file and make it ready for this version and beyond. Simply load that version from steam, load up your shop and you’re good to go to update to the latest (stable) version.

Instructions for how to do this can be found here: Fix: "Error loading save file. File is likely outdated."(https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791463886720/announcements/detail/1597010908188855828)

Update 3975 + Hotfix 3982: Crafting choice, Start of UI overhaul, Engine upgrade

Hello Shopkeepers!

With the summer holiday over and the days growing colder we once again spend more time indoors. And what better way to do this than with some new stuff to play with in Winkeltje?

This update marks the first update in a line of updates which will have some part of the UI updated to a new look. We are currently hard at work overhauling the UI to be clearer and just feel nicer in general, an added bonus is it becoming more modular for possible future features. In this update the Game Menu and Confirmation Window have both gotten some much needed love and are looking better than ever!

Update Highlights

A much requested feature was a way to have control of the order in which crafting options unlock. With this update we added crafting skill points which can be gained at level 3, 9, 13 and 20 with which you can unlock crafting stations. Whenever you have unlocked a new crafting skill point the unlock window will open automatically, allowing you to unlock a new crafting station if you wish.

The Starter and Stucco and Brick set gain a few extra options, to help you create the shop of your dreams.

Engine Update

With this update we updated the engine for Winkeltje to Unity version 2019.2 to be able to make use of the awesome new features and fixes. To ensure there wouldn’t be any incompatibilities for shops caused by the engine upgrade we gradually updated the game with this in mind since version 3818. So if you’ve played in your shop since update 3818 you won’t have to do anything and you should be able to open up shop right away! Neat huh?

But say you took a break since before Update 3818 and now decided you wanted to open up shop again. If you were to go straight from pre-3818 to this version there will be incompatibilities with your save. But all is not lost! Included in Update 3906 is a save converter which will convert your shop save file and make it all ready for this version and beyond. Simply load that version from steam, load up your shop and you’re good to go to update to the latest update.

Instructions for how to do this can be found here: Fix: "Error loading save file. File is likely outdated."(https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791463886720/announcements/detail/1597010908188855828)

And lastly... with the end of the summer holiday a new internship period has begun, and so we welcome Densin onboard as a new Game Design intern for the coming period.

Read Densin’s introduction here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/949290/discussions/0/1635291505036745726/
