Get to know the tribes of Revival: Recolonization

Greetings, associate!

Previously, we showed off the concepts for the tribal settlements, and today, we present the final 3D models!

The appearance of each settlement depends on which climate they live in. We were inspired by the architecture of different houses from various locations around the world.



The Cultists of Eternal Ice are fearless warriors that live in the cold climate. The design of their settlement is inspired by the dwellings of northern peoples – chums, yardangs, and half-terraced huts covered with skins.



The cool climate is home to fanatical Heresy Hunters, who are proud of their fortitude and thirst for justice. Their settlement consists of squat wooden huts and the remains of ancient ships.



The inhabitants of the temperate climate – the Children of the Vault – are descendants of civilized townspeople who survived the apocalypse in an underground bunker. They are not well-equipped for warfare and are more interested in the rebirth of civilization. Their dwellings are freestanding huts and common sheds, reminiscent of the shabono, the traditional construction of the Yanomami Indians of northern Brazil.



The Heavenly Fire Custodians found refuge in the warm climate. To them, the cataclysm was a cleansing fire from heaven. They are masters of guerilla warfare. The design of their settlements are inspired by wigwams and other traditional American Indian structures.



The Ash Commissaries inhabit the hot climate - a desolate landscape - and are outstanding merchants and diplomats. They have faith in a united Earth and strive to eliminate conflict between tribes. Their buildings resemble the tents and canopies of the peoples of the Sahara region. In the harsh conditions of nomadic life, they offer shelter from the boiling sun and withstand the onslaught of wind and sand.

Look at these poetic ruins!

We're still hard at work on Revival: Recolonization, constantly improving the visual effects in the game. This year, we have so many amazing updates for you! Here's a quick one.

Post-apocalypse landscapes don't just feature endless wastelands, anomalies and out-of-control automatons, but a slew of ruined buildings – a symbol of the former greatness of the civilization. These structures are covered in vegetation as nature slowly reclaims them.



We have added ruined freeways to the map. Once they were covered in streams of cars, but now they're nothing but windswept piles of concrete and steel.



There are many new buildings in Revival: Recolonization – it's a diverse architectural world. Who knows what you'll find?

Road to Early Access Launch

Hello to all of Revival’s fans out there! Hopefully, you’ve been playing around with the updated demo build and enjoying the latest changes to the edict system. After all, what’s better than melting ice under your enemy’s feet with a volcano you’ve just created? Perhaps, launching a zombie infestation near a neighboring town and enjoying the ensuing chaos ;)

This is Revival’s producer, Vasiliy Tedeev. With the hectic 2021 year coming to an end, it is time to let out a collective breath and look ahead to a brighter future.



First, the big news - the game’s launch into Early Access has been delayed to Q2/Q3 2022. Some of you may be upset to hear this, but the additional time will help Revival reach a level of quality that is acceptable to both you, the players, and the development team working passionately on this title.

[h2]How exactly will Revival: Recolonization become better in the coming months?[/h2]

With the edict 2.0 update, we have basically added the main functionality planned for Early Access. Now comes the real challenge - making sure all of the game mechanics work well together to create a memorable and engaging experience. Here’s what our development plan for the next 5 months looks like:



The team will dedicate some time to fine-tuning the edict system based on feedback received. Diplomacy will also receive more love as the current version is functional, but the game needs to provide actual reasons for players to engage with it. In addition, we will also focus our attention on making the diplomacy screen and associated UI panels more clear and easier to use.

After all of the associated game and usability improvements are in place, Revival will undergo another pass at UI refinement. Our goal is to make sure the UI better fits the game’s theme and to address the pain points that stand out the most to us and the players.

The art team is dedicated to creating all of the assets planned for Revival and we will be regularly adding them to the game build in the coming months. You’ve already seen previews of some of the content (and associated game mechanics) in earlier news posts - global projects, new anomalies, more automaton types, more ruins, unique tribal districts and settlements. All of these additions will help Revival’s post-apoc world feel more alive and immersive.



And last but not least, work on improving the game’s A.I. is an ongoing process. From January and onwards, we will be dedicating more time to making sure the enemy factions fully utilize the available tools and game mechanics in order to create meaningful challenges during your playthroughs.

That’s all for now. The team will rest for a week in January, before diving back into making Revival the best game it can be. But none of this would be any fun or meaningful without you, our supporters.

New game build ready to download!

We are proud to announce that the latest build of Revival: Recolonization is now available! You can access it by clicking on the "Download Demo" button on the game’s Steam page.

The new edict system and visual effects we've previously spoken about are in the new version, along with a slew of improvements and fixes!

You will be able to play the demo until December 9, after which we will start processing all of the player feedback.



The edict system:
  • Added the ability to use edicts on the combat map. We talked about improvements coming to the edict system in this news post.
  • Added visual effects for edicts: Temperature Decrease, Temperature Increase, Artificial Storm, Irradiate, Artificial Volcano, Earthquake, and Ultrasonic Boom.
  • Fixed the consequences of the Artificial Volcano edict: you can now walk on land hexes created via this edict.
  • When applying the Earthquake edict, hexes that will submerge as a result of launching the edict are now displayed.
  • Changed the duration of the Infestation edict from 5 turns to 3 turns.


Diplomacy:
  • After a tribe is assimilated, the region's borders are now immediately repainted in the faction's color, and the village automatically becomes that faction's outpost. Warriors of the outpost can provide support during combat. This change was implemented thanks to the feedback provided by Elemental on Discord. Keep it up!


New 3D models have been added:


Combat System:
  • Fixed various errors that appeared when updating a unit’s status.
  • When leaving a contaminated hex, the squad loses the “Irradiated” status.
  • Re-worked the way action points are added to an army after two units with a different number of action points are united in a stack.
  • Added weapons: Heavy Turret Gun and Heavy Tank Gun.
  • Added the Singularity Cannon visual effect.
  • Added shot sounds for the Gravity Gun and the Singularity Cannon.
  • Fixed a bug with the amount of damage dealt to an enemy not being displayed at times.
  • Fixed the mismatch between the equipment of clan warriors and their class.
  • Fixed a bug where roaming warriors of an assimilated clan do not come under player control.
  • Fixed radiation-related bugs for both hexes and units.


Interface:
  • Added the ability to accelerate animations with a right mouse click.
  • Added a UI scaling panel to the game’s settings menu.
  • A clan’s UI panel on the global map now also contains information about clan traits.
  • The Unit Editor window no longer closes without confirmation.
  • The name of the clan that is attacking the player is now correctly displayed.
