Stage Renovation, Over 100 New Questions + Twitch Polish!

Hello everyone!

It's only been two weeks since the Twitch Integration beta launched but already we have been humbled by its popularity! We've been closely observing (and joining!) Twitch streams to collect feedback on the future direction to take the beta, therefore we've focused the changes in this patch to addressing the connection and usability issues we had noticed. Hopefully these changes in this update will make
Twitch Integration a more reliable!

However, it's not all about streamers! We've put some extra design touches on to the stage! Now the Chance Round machine and Trivia Bosses have their own platform and set of lights. We'd say this is a step up from their previous location!

Lastly, you'll find over 100 new questions in this update, bringing our total to over 4,800! We would like to thank everybody who has submitted questions through our Discord for making such a dizzying possible. Speaking of Discord, our AI Character Contest, where you can get your own character designs added to the game, is ongoing for just another two weeks! All you need to do is join Discord, drop a picture and you might be lucky enough to see them added as a permanent contestant in a future update! Get them in by July 21st!

Check out the full patch notes below!

 • If the Twitch character is in the game the Speed bonus will be turned off regardless of the player's settings for balance purposes as the Twitch character is unable to achieve Speed bonuses.
 • If nobody in Twitch chat answers, the Twitch character will not answer the current question. If this happened previously the Twitch character would select a random answer but they would not gain points.
 • Added a suggestion to the Twitch info menu for streamers to use W/A/S/D or arrow keys instead of the mouse to stop them revealing their answers to chat!
 • Pressing backspace will no longer leave the Twitch menus, as this was causing players to close the menu while typing their usernames!
 • Fixed a bug where the Twitch character had an AI avatar on the TV for the final leaderboard, when they should have had the Twitch avatar.
 • Twitch Answers sent after the Twitch Character has selected an answer are no longer counted in the bar chart showing the % of answers.
 • The initial connection attempt to Twitch and the subsequent connection to Twitch Chat will now automatically retry if they fail on their first attempt. This should make the connection flow significantly more reliable and consistent.
 • If the Twitch character loses connection during a game it will attempt to reconnect at the start of each new question.
 • If the Twitch character loses connection in the pre-game lobby, or after a game ended, they will now be kicked from the game, but can be re-added through the regular 'Add Twitch Chat' method. Previously this led to a Twitch character that would ignore Twitch Chat until the lobby was closed and reopened.

 • A new area of the stage has been added. The Chance Round machine and Trivia Bosses now sit on their own platform!
 • This new area comes with its own set of lights.
 • The Chance Round's ball machine is now visible in standard games even when the Chance Round hasn't been enabled.
 • A few cameras have been changed to better frame these stage changes.

 • A minimize button has been added to the Lobby menus, which allows you to hide menu windows when clicked. Clicking any of the tab buttons will make it visible again.
 • Players who leave midgame now have a disconnect symbol above their heads - this should help make it clearer when a human player is now under AI control.
 • Cosmetic prices in the Character Creator now have commas where appropriate - for example, 5000 is now displayed as 5,000.
 • The Math category icon has been updated.

 • Added over 100 additional questions, the vast majority suggested by the Discord community! Thank you to everyone who has suggested questions so far!
 • Some now-outdated questions have been updated due to developments in the modern day.
 • Questions such as 'Which of the following is NOT a noble gas?' have been standardized to capitalize NOT/CANNOT.
 • Fixed some typos and cleaned up the wording on a variety of questions. Thanks to all of you who took the time to report these to us directly!

 • Fixed an issue where, if the file responsible for tracking which questions a player has seen became corrupted, the player would not see any questions during gameplay. Now, if Trivia Tricks detects a corrupted QuestionCache file is present, it will make a new one.
 • Fixed a bug where players were able to attempt to change the material of a cosmetic that only has one material by using a gamepad in the character creator.
 • Fixed the Main Menu declaring that it is "Trivia Tuesday" during Saturday Night Trivia.
 • Fixed the visuals on the Happy Sparkle emote particle effect from displaying incorrectly.
 • Fixed a bug where the player could play various menu sounds during one of the Twitch menus.

Trivia Tricks 0.9.0.5 (Chatbox Text Wrap Hotfix)

Howdy! Quick post-release hotfix for you all!

 • Fixed a bug where the new chat font wasn't wrapping long messages onto new lines

If you missed our previous hotfix last Friday, that update contained...

 • Fixed a bug in the Character Creator where names couldn't be typed while in an accessory slot tab
 • Fixed a bug where the Rainbow Shirt wasn't being automatically unlocked for returning players
 • Fixed a bug causing returning players who explicitly selected the 'Nothing' accessory would be unable to save that character without without leaving and reopening the Character Creator
 • Fixed a bug where, if player user hadn't booted the game in awhile, the items that have been given away for free since they last signed on weren't being retroactively added to their save file (This impacted 'Lashes', 'Count's Cape', 'Fangs Shirt' and 'Santa Hat')

Twitch Integration Live! + Accessories For Characters!

Hey everyone!

We're proud to introduce our latest update featuring a beta of our Twitch Integration milestone, a significantly expanded character customization feature and an event to get your Trickster on the world stage!

This update brings Twitch Integration support to Trivia Tricks, allowing Twitch Chat to participate as a contestant on the show! Team up with your viewers to take down Trivia Bosses together or take your viewers on in a battle of Trivia brainpower! (Chat can't be that smart... right?)

Beyond just answering questions, viewers who picked the right answer will have their names fly across the screen. The Twitch character can react with emotes' through a few commands too such as: !laugh, !cry, !angry, !shock, and !dance. Streamers have an option to limit chat participation to subscribers only, and Bits will be thrown onstage proportional to the tier that has been cheered. We're extremely proud of our Twitch Integration feature level, but we have chosen to label it as a beta to make clear we're still looking to extend it with your input! We'll be watching streams, engaging with your feedback on our Discord and continuing to expand Twitch Integration over the coming weeks! Let us know what you think!

One of Trivia Tricks' most celebrated features is its character customization, however we've heard many glasses-wearing players didn't appreciate having to go bald if they want to bring specs on stage!

We're happy to unveil that today's update adds two 'accessory' slots in the character creator! This will unbuckle glasses, ties, scarfs, floating moons (wait what?) and a selection of other cosmetics from the original four slots. We've also taken this time to update the physics and visuals on some of our existing fan-favorite items and add a few new surprises while we're at it. Please check out the new options available in the character creator and send us your favorites!

The Trivia Tricks Discord continues to pop off! To start with, the show is looking for more contestants! With the expanded character creator now seems the perfect time to expand our AI roster and we're turning to the community for inspiration! In our Discord you'll find a new channel dedicated to sharing pictures of your favorite created characters. The best of the best will be added to Trivia Tricks pool of potential AI! This event will come to an end at a future date so get them in ASAP!

Finally, we love seeing your diverse question suggestions and integrating them into each update, but we understandably had feedback from players wishing they could suggest questions without posting them in a public channel. This is now no longer the case! You will find Question Bot in our Discord, who will be happy to collect your question submissions in DMs and automatically send them to us for consideration in future updates. Give it a shot!

Wow! That was a lot. If you're looking for complete patch notes and bug fixes in bullet point format, well, read on! Here's the full patch notes for Trivia Tricks version 0.9.0.2!
Twitch Beta!
• The Twitch Beta is here! Add your Twitch audience as a playable character who you can play against in Standard Trivia, or work together in Vs Boss Mode!
 • The Twitch button in the bottom right of the Lobby will walk you through the process. You will need to go to the Trivia Tricks website, then log into Twitch and receive a token. Once this token has been pasted in, enter your Twitch account name, give your chat a nickname and you're good to go!
 • Once the Twitch character has been added, your chat will be able to answer questions by sending A/B/C/D or 1/2/3/4 in Twitch Chat.
 • Whenever Twitch Chat is in play your answer options will have A/B/C/D or 1/2/3/4 next to them so that your Twitch Chat will know how to answer.
 • The Twitch character will choose whichever answer has the highest number of votes from the Twitch Chat when there is 1 second remaining on the answer timer. If no one answers, they will choose a random answer.
 • The Twitch character will receive points in proportion to the audience that got the answer correct, for example, if 80% of the chat was correct then the Twitch character will receive 80% of the points for choosing the correct answer.
 • If the Twitch character answers correctly, the names of 20 random Twitch users who got the answer correct will be shown on-screen!
 • If you receive any Bits, the Twitch character will throw Bits on stage in proportion to donation amount!
 • The Twitch Chat can use commands to make the Twitch character play various animations, such as dancing and crying!
 • Please note that the Twitch character counts as a player - so if you want to play with the Twitch character you will need to set aside a slot for them to join!
New Accessory Slots For Additional Character Customization!
• The number of cosmetics that your character can wear has been increased from 4 to 6!
 • It is now possible to wear a variety of cosmetic combinations that weren't possible previously, like wearing both hats and glasses, or scarfs and shirts!
 • These cosmetics have been moved to the 'Accessory' category instead of the 'Hats' or 'Shirts' category.
 • The tabs at the top of the Character Creator have updated designs to support the extra options!
 • However there are a few cases where some cosmetics can't be worn together (such as the 'Count's Cape' and the 'Guitar').
 • Your saved characters will automatically update to move any relevant cosmetics to the correct slots.
 • We've added some new cosmetics! 'Rainbow Shirt', 'Propeller Hat' and 'Disguise Glasses'. Good news, 'Rainbow Shirt' is free to all!
 • The 'Up Arrow' and 'Down Arrow' shirts have been updated to 'Gains' and 'Losses' and have been given a more animated look! If you were lucky (or unlucky) enough to have had these shirts unlocked before then you will find them automatically unlocked!
 • The 'Scarf', 'Bowtie' and 'Tie' have been re-modeled to suit being worn with shirts.
 • The physics on the 'Count's Cape' item has been fixed! It now flows much more naturally!
 • Let us know what characters you've now been able to make on our Discord and you may just be facing them as AI in future updates!
Usability Improvements
• The area around the 'Ready Up!' button in the lobby screen has been redesigned, most notably the 'Categories' button has been moved to that corner.
 • If the categories are changed (for example, when switching between bosses) a small "Updated!" alert will appear above the categories button - this should help make it clear when categories have been adjusted without needing to open the window!
 • Chat messages have been updated so the player's name appears bolder than their message.
Question Database Changes
• New questions have been added - including suggestions from our Discord community!
 • The quality of questions in various categories have been improved, such as the Music and Animals category.
 • Fixed various typos.
Bug Fixes
• Fixed a bug where a player who joined midgame during the Chance Round would be able to hear the Chance Round balls spawning while waiting to join.
 • The up/down arrows indicating player's rankings have been hidden during the screen asking for the player's Chance Round participation, they were not intended to be shown here and as such were not reflecting actual ranking adjustments!

Saturday Night Trivia and a preview of Twitch Integration!

Hey everyone!

First off, Trivia Tuesday is moving! Following player feedback and collected data we have decided to move the event to Saturday and will be henceforth known as 'Saturday Night Trivia'! We have also adjusted the achievements and cosmetic requirements to suit the new times. Don't worry if you have already completed these challenges - your progress has been retained!

The hour long window will remain at these same times only now on a Saturday:

EU Friendly Time Slot
- 6pm - 7pm UTC (Sat)
- 7pm - 8pm BST (Sat)
- 2pm - 3pm EST (Sat)
- 1pm - 2pm CST (Sat)
- 11am - 12pm PST (Sat)

US Friendly Time Slot
- 1am - 2am UTC (Sun)
- 2am - 3am BST (Sun)
- 9pm - 10pm EST (Sat)
- 8pm - 9pm CST (Sat)
- 6pm - 7pm PST (Sat)

Development on Twitch integration is progressing smoothly and will be arriving soon in a playable Beta. While it is not dropping this patch we want to give a quick rundown of what we have so far.

Connecting Twitch chat as a player requires only the input of your Twitch account name and a name for your community to play under. No stream keys are needed!

Your community can play alongside you without owning the game simply by typing A, B, C, or D in the chat. When an answer is revealed a breakdown of how your chat voted for that question will also be shown. Points are awarded to the Twitch character proportionally for how many of your Twitch viewers selected the correct answer. This Twitch player can be added to any game mode, so you can compete or work together and take down bosses!

During our Beta we will be looking into adding additional customization, settings and rulesets that will ensure that playing with your Twitch community is as smooth as possible. As always, we are looking for feedback and suggestions to help shape this new feature! Let us know what you think on our Discord!
