[Dev Note] New Hyena Designs, a New Item, and More

Greetings from Orbis!

Brrrr! It’s been getting cold out lately. We’re all sweating at the brow here in the Reality MagiQ offices trying to polish everything in our game before we launch into early access later this month.

There’s a lot more to unpack this week. We’ve visually redesigned all of the hyena soldiers, toughened up high end vehicles, added detection drones to the game, and updated the facility skill UI.
📒 New Hyena Troop Design
The Hyena soldiers didn’t feel quite human enough, so we decided to take the visors off their helmets and let them breathe some fresh air while they’re waiting to put a hole in your head.

While we were at it, we also tried to more clearly differentiate between the 4 different types of Hyena soldiers.
📒 Stronger High Level Vehicles
Have you ever been driving along in the Dysterra wilderness, minding your own business, when BAAMMM!!! You ran over a landmine. And then another one. And @#$%!! ANOTHER ONE!!! This isn’t looking good…

Well worry no longer. The Strider and Strider EX now come with a thicker more mine-resistant undercarriage as well as stronger anti-rocket paneling to keep you from unwittingly dying while you’re out and about. Vehicles are expensive to make, and we want to make sure you get to enjoy your investment.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
📒 Drones!
Imagine this: You’re outside a building, ready to loot it, but you want to know how many NPCs are inside. Maybe you’re out of bullets and want to avoid them, or maybe you’re looking to kill them and loot their bodies as quickly as possible.

Well now you can throw a scan drone up in the air, and it’ll tell you where and how far different NPCs are.

But be warned: it won’t tell you the locations of other survivors, so you can’t use it to see if anyone is home before you raid a base.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
📒 Improved Facility Skill UI
We’ve also been working on fine-tuning our game’s interface so it’s more intuitive for survivors that are new to the game. This week’s focus was on the facility skill UI.

The layout should feel a lot cleaner and simpler, and first time users of a facility controller should have a much easier time deciding where and how to use their new toy.

That’s it for this week’s dev note.
I’ll be back next week with even more updates!

Orbis thanks you for your service!

[Dev Note]Improvements to Vehicles, Enemy AI, Hacking, and Terrafire countdown

Greetings from Orbis!

For all of you Dysterra-holics out there, here’s the latest Dysterra news for you to read while sipping on a homemade hot chocolate and watching what’s left of the Autumn leaves change color outside your living room window.

This week we have quite a few vehicle updates, changes to hacking success rates, improved enemy AI, and a modification to the Terrafire countdown.
🏎️ Flip Your Car Upright🏎️
We’ve all rode our Strider off a cliff or over a ridge and somehow flipped it on its back… unable to use it ever again. Some survivors have been creative and were able to get their Strider on all four wheels with the use of a friend and some careful maneuvering.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Now you can build and drive your vehicles without worrying about eventually flipping it.
When, not if, you eventually flip your Strider again, long-hold “F” to access the ring menu, and you’ll find an option to flip your car back to how it should be.
👻 NPC Detection of Stealthed Survivors👻
We realized the Stealth protocol was a bit OP at times, so we’ve added the ability for enemies to sense stealthed survivors under certain conditions. NPCs will now be able to sense if a stealthed survivor walks, runs, crouches, or lands nearby and will run towards wherever the sound originated.

Additionally, even if the player is not taking any action, NPCs can sense motionless survivors if they are very close to the NPC.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
🌋 Improved Terrafire Countdown🚀
If you’ve conquered a facility, then you’ll know that you get a phase controller that can be used to add/subtract days from the Terrafire eruption countdown, while also adding a positive/negative effect to an area of the map.

We saw the number of days go up and up and up and up, and decided that it’d be best to put a cap on it. For now, the cap is set to 365 days of in-game time(1 in-game day = 1 real-time hour, so just over 15 days), but that number may be fine-tuned in the near future.
💻 Improved Hacking Success Rates💻
Not everyone has tried hacking yet, but for those that have, we understand that there were far more failures than successes when trying to open a secure crate. We’ve revamped the hacking calculations to make hacking success rates more intuitive and player-friendly.

Before: Hacking success was calculated purely by each survivor’s own personal success rate.

Now: Each type of security crate has its own hacking success rate, with lower level Tiers being easier, and high level Tiers being more difficult. This success rate can be modified by leveling up hacking skills.
🏎️ New distinct design for the Strider EX🎨
Rather than using color to distinguish the Strider EX from the Strider, we’ve instead chosen to redesign the EX so it has its own visually distinct shape.
🏎️ Store Items in Your Strider🧳
Every car should have a trunk (or a boot if you’re from East of the Atlantic).

Now you can store items in your Strider or Strider EX by holding “F” to access the ring menu, and accessing “Vehicle Management.” Currently, the Strider has 10 slots while the EX has 20 slots for you to store your hard earned loot.
🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏾Discord Changes💜
We’ve revamped our discord server to prepare for Dysterra’s release into Early Access on November 23th, 2022(PST).

As some of you may have noticed, we’ve updated our discord server with a cleaner, hopefully more intuitive layout. Check out the recent post on our discord to learn more about what we’ve done.

Also!
From here on out, our developers will be joining in on the suggestions, feedback, and bug report channels.
Please don’t hesitate to leave your ideas or questions in the feedback or bug report channels.

I’ll be back next week with even more updates!
Orbis thanks you for your service!

[Dev Note] Reinforce Equipment Durability, Mech suit, TerraShop, Skins, New Guns

Greetings from Orbis! Director K here with another developer update for you.

I know you’ve all been waiting in anticipation for another chance to play Dysterra. And our team has enjoyed seeing the creative memes you’ve been posting in the Discord channels.

Over the past month, our developer team at Reality MagiQ has been hard at work making improvements and adding even more features to the game.
📒 Reinforce your equipment! ⚒️
Durability low? Not any more!
Introducing Level 2 repair benches! They come with all of the same features as
the Level 1 repair benches, but with the ability to increase your items’ total durability.

We heard players’ complaints about needing to bring several guns on a facility raid,
and now that should be a thing of the past.
For example: Instead of packing two guns with their default durability, you can upgrade one gun
so it will last longer while you’re exploring the map or taking down a facility.
📒 Rideable mech suits! 🦾
Our team was thinking… 4-wheeled vehicles are great and all, but what if it was possible
to stomp around in a juggernaut suit and blast enemies with a volley of rockets?

Well now it’s possible. Players will now be able to control Proto-Juggernaut suits while fighting
the Delta Plant bosses. They’re currently only accessible inside the fighting arena, and you can’t
take them through the portal (balancing reasons and all). So be sure to try them out the next time
you drop by the Delta Plant in the Delta region.
📒 Skin Systems 🧵
We’ve added new skins for you to enjoy. They can be collected by watching Dysterra streams on Twitch, or by completing missions in game. There’ll be a good mix of skins ready,
so be sure to grab them!
📒 The Terra Shop 🏪
For all of you survivors wanting to look sharp while you’re running through the Geolab, or doing donuts around your friend’s base in your new vehicle, we’ve added a Terra Shop to the game’s lobby screen. This is where you can buy all the latest outfits and get new skins for your guns.

You can buy things from the Terra Shop with terrapoints.
But what’s a terrapoint you ask?

Terrapoints can be earned daily by logging in, and they’ll also be paid out weekly to players according to their ranking tier. You can think of it as a wage paid out to the survivors that work the hardest to mine Terrasite for Orbis. Once you’ve earned enough terrapoints, you’ll be able to spend them to get all kinds of weapon or armor skins.
📒 New Gun Type 🔫
And finally, we’ve added two new guns to the game to give you more choice in your style of gameplay:
DMR SW-1 Venator
A rare-tier(blue), light ammo designated marksman rifle(DMR) with better armor penetration than standard DMRs, giving you that extra edge when you’re fighting for your life.
DMR ASW-82 Stalker
An epic-tier(purple), light ammo designated marksman rifle(DMR) that has a smart-ammo ability. Shooting a target marks it, and each successive shot will bend and twist through the air towards
its marker.

The catch?
The marker is reset when you cancel it, or line-of-sight to the opponent is lost.
Opponents using the stealth ability cannot be targeted. Shots taken using the smart-ammo
ability cause less damage than shots taken normally.

I’ll be back next week with even more updates!
Orbis thanks you for your service!
