Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 8

Hello everyone!
It's time for the weekly update. :)
Here's our new content:
Quality of Life Improvements:
- You now are woken up when your hydration, nutrition, blood pressure get too low, or when your nausea gets too high.
- Made the save system more robust to prevent some errors that could occur in some fringe cases.
- Important or Dangerous actions (like drinking salt water) now have a confirmation popup.
Island Populations:
- All animals and plants in the island now have actual populations that can replenish over time as long as they're not driven extinct.
- Animals and plants can spread to adjacent environments if they reach their maximum population there, so if you collect all aloe vera from the beach, the aloe vera from the outskirts, if left alone, should slowly spread to the beach again.
- Sea animals replenish their populations from the sea, so they cannot be driven extinct, they can be made more rare however.
Trapping Improvements:
- You can now catch new animals in your traps, namely Mice, Lizards and Prawns.
- Traps are now unlocked through a new "trapping" skill. This includes the deadfall, snare and fish traps.
- Traps are now a bit worse, but can perform better and better as your trapping skill improves.
- Deadfall Traps are now built using heavy stones, which can be found in certain parts of the island.
- Deadfall Traps and Snare Traps can now be built everywhere in the island, and will catch different animals depending on the location.
Cooking Improvements:
- You can now make oil by boiling coconut milk, which can be used as an alternative to fat in most dishes.
- You can now cook coconut meat, fish scraps and fish slices on the fire too.
- The seafood cup is now cheaper so that it can be prepared more easily.
- Overeating is now a problem, if you eat too much, you might start feeling sick and throw up.
Additional Changes:
- Plants are now harder to find if their population is low.,
- Herbology is more important now, as plants will also be harder to find if your skill is low.
- Training with the spear now consumes stamina.
- Water Reservoir is now more expensive to build.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where making uncooked sugar on the last tick would produce sugar and wine.
- Fixed a bug where crop plots, reservoirs and other water containers wouldn't get hydrated during rain if you were in a different environment.
- Fixed an exploit where you could get embers and save charcoal by extinguishing the fire with that action.
- Fixed a bug that allowed to equip two incompatible perks (crashed plane and parachute).
- And many other minor fixes that were reported on the discussion forums.

That is all for now. Have a nice week! :)

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 7

Hi everyone!
Update time again. :)
Here's the new content:
Character Creation:
The character creator is finally ready.
It is quite simple: when starting a game you'll be given the option to create a new character or to pick from the existing ones.

The creation screen has the following sections:
- Name:
Self-explanatory.
- Description:
For immersion or roleplaying purposes, if you are feeling inspired.
- Portrait:
Where you can pick a face for your character. There are only 4 for now, but we'll be adding more with each update. We aim to have a good selection of different looking people from all over the world and we are also planning on letting you upload your own pictures if you so wish.
- Perks:
The most important section. Here you can pick from a selection of perks, each giving you certain advantages or disadvantages that will affect the difficulty rating of your character. Perks start locked, but you can unlock them by playing the game.
They can give you anything from a different starting location, to a different set of unique starting equipment, to different traits that can help or hinder you. Needless to say, we will be adding more perks with new updates, so feel free to give us ideas or suggestions if any come to mind!
- Difficulty Rating:
Each character has a difficulty rating. Mostly so that you can see how challenging the experience is going to be with the perks you selected. The difficulty rating needs to be balanced, as it might still not reflect well the actual difficulty of the experience, but let's say it's a start. :)
New Characters:
We have added a couple of new characters to go along the old normal guy.
Both characters were made with the character creator, so they should give you an idea of what you can do.

These characters are:

1) The islander guy, which now acts as some sort of new easy mode (we have removed the old one as it had become a bit redundant and it didnt work well with the character creator). He starts with a bone knife, a stone spear and a couple more things;he has better skills and is affected a lot less by sunburns, sickness, backpain and bugs.

2) The Unlucky guy, which acts as a hard mode for those who are looking for a more different and challenging experience. He starts in a crashed plane in the middle of the wetlands, and while he has some equipment, he's also shortsighted, attracts bugs, gets sunburnt easily and has a weak immune system. Oh, and he also starts with a bleeding wound caused by the plane accident!

Minor Features a Balance Tweaks:
- You can now use advanced knives (copper and military) to craft wood shavings, which you can use as tinder.
- Bones can now be broken into splinters, which can be used for making hooks and needles.
- Bones can now be used to craft bone knives.
- You now get sick if you are too saturated of one type of food, which can make you throw up.
- Eating Lemon Grass now gives you a bit of insect protection.
- Washing yourself now also removes bug repellent.
- Shelters and leaf beds now take longer to expire.
- Made Leaf Bed cheaper to build.
- Cutting fish into slices is now called making bait to prevent confusion and it also gives fish scraps.
- Aloe Vera Plots now give 4 plants.
- You can now dry up mud on campfires.
- Made Dry and Wet Seasons less extreme.
- Areas are now a bit larger and announce when they are fully explored (event which gives you some happiness).
- Spears can no longer be stored in sacks.
- Cutting Logs no longer gives long sticks but it gives more wood, if you want long sticks you'll have to cut down small trees or find them in the jungle or wetlands.
- Removing coconut meat now takes time, but eating it does not.
- Bananas can now be found in the wetlands, although in smaller numbers.

Bug Fixes:
- Fixed the Torch's light.
- Fixed a bug that was causing boiled coconut water to become normal water.
- Fixed bug that messed up cave puddles.
- Fixed bug where one of the puddle actions had no time cost.
- Fixed bug that allowed you to build coops in the cave and trapped you outside of the world.
- Fixed bug where washing yourself with a salt water coconut shell would give you salt.
- Coops, Crop Plots, Kilns and certain other structures can lo longer be built inside.

That is all for now!
Enjoy the update and have a nice week!

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 6

Hello everyone!
It's Sunday again, so it's time to update the game.

We had planned to release the character creator this week, but we ended up spending a large amount of time fixing bugs and in the end we had to change our objective midweek and go for something smaller and safer, as we started fearing we wouldn't have time to get things implemented properly!
That said, the character creator will most likely be coming on the next update. ;)

Here's the update's content:
Metalworking:
You can now find copper ore in the highlands and the dark cave and use it to craft a copper knives axes and spears. These tools have more durability and can sometimes perform actions faster or better than their stone counterparts.
To craft them just make molds out of mud and smelt the metal into shape inside a kiln. Then attach the blades to craft the desired object.
New Important Features:
Objects now have a special window that informs you when they break, this way we can avoid those cases where your clothes break and you have no idea when or where that happened.
You can now make Soap, which can be used to wash yourself with less water. It is created by mixing fat and lye and boiling it on a fire. Lye, which will have more uses in future updates, can be created by boiling ash water.
Minor Features a Balance Tweaks:
- Added a new potless recipe: Chicken Sandwitch
- Moved some cooking recipes around.
- Having higher herbology makes it now easier to find plants when exploring.
- Embers now turn into charcoal once expired. They also don't get spent when used to light tinder.
- Charcoal and ash now get produced over time on Campfires and Stoves but can only be extracted once a fire has burned for long enough. (note: ashes can only be extracted when a fire is extinguished)
- Shelters and Leaf Beds can now be combined into one, which possesses the benefits of both cards.
- Made the spearfishing skill a little easier to learn.
- You can now train spear fighting with the fishing spear.
- You can now throw stones at palm trees to get coconuts, although it is extremely hard to succeed at it, specially if your rock throwing skill is low. (there was an exploit with this, because it was accidentally pushed before it was ready but it should now be working fine)
- You can now apply Aloe Vera during the night.
- Refilling flasks now takes time, making one of the known water exploits less profitable.
- Water Boiling exploit no longer works.
- Fixed a bug that was preventing egg saturation from appearing.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed some bugs that were preventing your throwing up when drinking too much alcohol or when drinking salt water.
- Fixed some infinite water bugs with the water skin.
- Fixed a bug that was causing some resources not to spawn once they became rare enough.
- Fixed an issue that was causing the dark cave to freeze the game.
- Fixed some wrong names that had arisen from a bad merge (dark cave was called mud hut)
- Fixed bug that prevented palm trees from spawning.
- Fixed a bug that allowed you store locations cards inside inventories.
- Fixed a bug that would soft lock the game when reaching day 2 on some computers.
- Fixed a bug that was stopping the jungle path from appearing on some computers.

That's all for now. Thank you everyone for giving our game a try!
See you on the next update! :)

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 5

Hi everyone!

It's time for a new update again.
Here's the new content:
New Progression:
Card Survival has considerably more content than when we launched it one month ago, for this reason we have updated the journal progression to better fit the current experience.
There is now one single way to win the game (escaping the island) but reaching it requires you to explore more of the game's content. We think the experience is working much better now!
These changes are also part of a bigger update that should be coming soon, which will be introducing a character creation system, where you will be able to build characters with perks you unlocked during your previous runs.
Seasons
The game now features a dry season that starts around day 30 and during which there will be extremely low chances of rain (I'm sorry!). A wet season will start around day 90 during which rain will be incredibly common. After that the cycle will repeat.
Future updates will make the seasons more complex and interesting, with the addition of storms and other unique events.
Dark Cave:
There is now a new cave with a small water source that is independent from the rain. If you manage to find it you will need a light source to explore it. The cave is relatively small for now, but it will be expanded further in future updates.
Sugar and Alcohol:
You can now craft sap stations on palm trees which allow you to fill clay vases sap. The sap can be drunk or cooked into sugar, alternatively it can be left alone until it ferments and turns into palm wine.
Drinking wine will improve your mood, act as minor pain relief, and get you drunk. You can also throw up and even pass out if you drink too much. Wine can only be held in clay vases for now, but future updates will allow you to move it around like normal liquids.
Sugar can be used as part of a new recipe (fried bananas) and is now a requirement for the sago cake too.
New Items:
We've added a couple new clothing items, a woven palm frond hat that offers some protection against the sun and a fiber shirt that does that as well and also protects you a bit from bug bites.
You can now also craft a basket with woven palm fronds that acts as a cheaper but more advanced alternative to the sack.
Minor Features a Balance Tweaks:
- Sunburns are now a bit more dangerous.
- Important structures like campfires and beds now get placed in the location row.
- Blueprints now get placed in the location row.
- Bleeding Wounds now clot, causing bloodloss to last less.
- Malnourishment now causes you to get hungry faster.
- Fish Traps now only have 1 construction step.
- You can now make fiber out of husks while in darkness.
- Adjusted some blueprints, including the Raft one.
- It is now easier to find things while diving.
- Tweaked the plant populations in the island.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug that caused Cleared Palm and Banana trees not to appear.
- Fixed bug where hunting seagulls with spears would give you partridges.
- Fixed bug that was stopping aloe vera from appearing in the highlands.
- Fixed an issue involving bookmarks and pins that was causing the game to crash.

That's all for now. Have a nice week everyone!

Card Survival: Tropical Island - Update 4

Hello everyone!

It's update time.
Here's a list of our new content:
Archery:
You can now craft bows and arrows with which to hunt the different animals in Card Survival. The bow, like the sling and the spears has its own skill, which increases with use. The greater your skill, the more chances you'll have at hitting your target.
In addition to this, you can now use all weapons with all animals. So you can now try to hunt seagulls with spears and Wild Boar with slings (although that is harder).
Partridges:
The highlands have gained considerable value as partridges can now be found here. These birds and their nests can be hunted and are a new source of feathers, bones, eggs and bird meat.
Partridges can also be trapped live with the new snare traps (that for now can only be used in the highlands) and released inside a new coop structure. In there you'll be able to feed them and farm them for their eggs and meat.
Minor Features a Balance Tweaks:
- You can now cook a new type of food, Sago Flatbread, by cooking Sago Flour directly on a campfire or stove.
- You can now make improvised bandages out of cloth.
- Hand Wrappings have been temporarily disabled.
- Coconut Milk can now also be crafted using water.
- Seafood Cup can now be unlocked earlier but Scrappy Soup is now unlocked a little later.
- Extracting mud now gradually empties puddles.
- You can now fish during the night (only with a fishing rod though).
- Increased crop yield for all plants.
- Starting fires with embers now takes no time.
- It now takes less time to recover when you collapse from exhaustion.
- Blueprints now get placed at your current position and not to the right end of the row like before.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where you could accidentally fire Clay Vases and bowls in the Kiln for hours.
- Fixed a bug where all cards would get greyed out after dragging an object to the campfire card while the campfire was open.
- Fixed a bug with right clicking cards into inventories.
- Fixed a bug that caused recipe results not to spoil when travelling to an offscreen environment.
- Fixed some water container issues, again.

That's all for now! Have a nice week! :)
