The Exploration Update is ready to launch! To celebrate the upcoming release of the Exploration Update and the amazing year we’ve had, Out Of Orbit will be available at 50% off during the Steam Winter Sale!

EXPLORATION UPDATE
The Exploration Update is set to launch on December 15th 2024, strategically timed just a few days before the Steam Winter Sale kicks off. This scheduling allows me a crucial four-day window to identify and address any significant bugs or issues that may arise after release. By doing so, I can ensure the game is in its best possible state before the anticipated influx of new players joining during the sale. This approach should help provide a smoother experience for both existing and incoming players, setting the stage for a successful holiday season.

STEAM WINTER SALE
The Steam Winter Sale kicks off on December 19th and will run for two weeks. During this time, Out Of Orbit will be available at a massive 50% discount, a special way to celebrate what has been an incredible year for the game. This year, Out Of Orbit experienced tremendous growth, which is a milestone worth celebrating. This sale also coincides with the release of the Exploration Update. This major update introduces a wealth of new content and features, offering players even more ways to immerse themselves in the game. It’s both a thank-you to our loyal community for their support and an invitation for new players to jump into the action at an unbeatable price. With these events happening back-to-back, this Winter Sale is shaping up to be an unforgettable period for Out Of Orbit!

DEMO
On January 3th, a free demo of Out Of Orbit will be released on the Steam store page! This demo is designed to give players who are interested in the game a chance to try it out and see if it’s the right fit for them. Whether you’re curious about the gameplay, the mechanics, or the overall experience, the demo provides the perfect opportunity to explore a portion of the game at no cost.

GIVEAWAY
After the demo is released, an exciting giveaway contest will kick off on the official Discord channel! I’ll be giving away 20 full copies of Out Of Orbit to participants who showcase their creativity and skill. To enter, players will need to use the demo version to build their best spaceship. The most impressive designs will win a copy of the game!

This is your chance to put your creativity to the test, explore the demo’s features, and potentially earn a full version of the game as a prize. Full details, including contest rules and submission guidelines, will be shared on the Discord server soon, so stay tuned!

Dear Earthlings
It's been a while and there is a lot to talk about!

Level Design Crew
Exciting news! I’m putting together a dedicated level design crew. This will allow me to focus more on coding and the core mechanics of the game while the team can dive into designing the intricate details of spaceships and buildings. As a sneak peek, check out the screenshot below for a preview of what’s already in the works. This is just the beginning—I’m planning to add many more unique buildings and spaceships than ever before.



New Starmap Looks
I’m reworking the starmap to add even more depth to gameplay! The new design includes faction territory locations, which will make exploring the universe more strategic and immersive. Each point of interest now features a unique boss battle. Conquering these bosses will weaken that faction’s influence in their territory, ultimately allowing you to claim and dominate an entire universe for yourself.

This change is going to make territorial control and expansion a key element of the game, providing players with more goals and challenges to pursue.

Exploration Update
As you can see, the exploration update is coming along nicely! The progress so far has been exciting, and I’m thrilled to share that I’m aiming for a release date somewhere in early December.

This update will bring significant new features and improvements, making the exploration aspect of the game more engaging and dynamic. I’m looking forward to sharing more details and previews as i get closer to the launch.

Dear Earthlings
It’s been a while since my last dev diary, and I'm excited to share the progress I’ve made. I’ve been hard at work refining the game mechanics and enhancing the user experience. The new art assets are taking shape, and the gameplay is becoming more engaging than ever. I've also implemented feedback from the community, making adjustments based on your suggestions. Additionally, I’m tackling some challenging bugs that popped up during testing.

Exploration Update
The planet terrain generator is functioning well, creating diverse and immersive landscapes for players to explore. This feature opens up exciting opportunities for unique environments, making each planet feel distinct and engaging.

I’ve also introduced a new object called the teleporter. This handy device allows players to teleport between different locations across the game universe, enhancing the exploration experience. By strategically placing teleporters on various planets, players can quickly traverse vast distances, enabling them to explore new areas without the hassle of long travel times. All other space locations have been completed, ensuring that there’s plenty to discover as you journey through the stars.

Currently, I’m focusing on quality-of-life improvements that will enhance the overall gameplay experience. These changes aim to streamline various aspects of the game, making it more intuitive and enjoyable for players. Notably, there will be significant updates to the editor and spaceship handling. These adjustments are designed to provide players with more control and flexibility, making it easier to customize their experience and navigate the game world.

In addition to these gameplay enhancements, I’m also dedicating time to clean up the project in the background. This effort is essential to optimize performance and ensure the game runs smoothly. By addressing any unnecessary code and assets, I can enhance the overall efficiency, leading to a better experience for players. A well-optimized game is crucial for maintaining engagement, especially as the complexity of the game increases.

I will try and drop the update before the Steam Winter Sale, so December 21st that is. I'll let you guys know if i reach that deadline in time or not!

Dear Earthlings
Here’s a quick update on the game development progress! Work is going well!

Exploration Update
I’m excited to announce that I’m currently working on the Exploration Update for my game! This update will significantly enhance the player’s experience by introducing the ability to land on planets and explore their surfaces in detail.

The Exploration Update is a major addition, allowing players to step out of their ships and explore procedurally generated planetary environments. From mysterious landscapes to unique points of interest, each planet will offer its own surprises and challenges. Players will have the freedom to land on different worlds, venture across the terrain, and interact with the environment.

While planetary exploration is the main focus, this update also introduces new interactive elements, such as discovering hidden locations, gathering resources, and facing environmental hazards. Every planet will provide opportunities to uncover secrets and treasures, but also present dangers that will test the player’s survival skills.

Below are some screenshots showing the progress so far. Please note that these are still work-in-progress and subject to further refinement as development continues. There’s a lot more to come, and I’m working hard to ensure this update is as exciting and immersive as possible.

Holiday
I wanted to let everyone know that I am currently on holiday with my wife and daughter until October 8th. During this time, there will be no updates or new developments on the game. While I’ll occasionally check in on the community Discord server to stay connected, my main focus will be spending quality time with my family.

I truly appreciate your understanding and support. Once I return, I’ll be back to work on the game. In the meantime, feel free to continue sharing your thoughts and feedback on the Discord server, and I’ll catch up with everything when I’m back.
