Development Update #4 - Backend Upgrades

Hello,

I hope everyone has had a great start to the year. I said Wyoming Winter v1.13 would be out some time in February however I have decided to put a lot more effort into refactoring this update.

I am upgrading the Unity version Wyoming Winter uses from 2022 to Unity 6 LTS. This will bring Wyoming Winter's back end up to date with the newest Unity features and hopefully allow for some cool things to be done as well as allowing me to utilize new multiplayer development tools.

I am also fundamentally chaning the way the game is structured as the current structure is getting messy and convoluted due to lack of forwards thinking early on in the game's development life where I thought I'd be working on it for no more than 6 months.

This restructure is going to take time but will result in absoloutely massive productivity gains and speed ups in development. It will also hopefully allow for custom maps to be added a lot easier when I get round to that.

Please hold out for a bit longer on this update. I can promise it's worth it.

Cheers,
ValleyHound

Deprecating ValleyHoundUK's X/Twitter account

Hello,

The @ValleyHoundUK official X/Twitter account will no longer be updated with new posts / content.

The platform and it's owners hold very public positions recently public interference with UK politics that I can't indirectly condone by maintaing a presence on the platform.

As an alternative see the ValleyHoundUK blue sky account at https://bsky.app/profile/valleyhounduk.bsky.social

Hope everyone had a lovely new years, look forward to development post 4 coming soon.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope everyone has had a great year and is now enjoying some down time & christmas pudding.

I was hoping to have 1.13 released by December 9th which was Wyoming Winter's 2nd birthday on Steam however I have a lot of other work to be doing which has slowed progress so it is looking more like a January release date just like 1.12 which released this past January.

Going into the new year and looking at future updates I think I will attempt to cut down on the amount of work I am doing in each update to get them out more frequently as these yearly updates are a bit far between.

Anyway I hope everyone is looking forward to 1.13, lots of new content and areas to explore.

Once again I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year :)

Cheers,
ValleyHound

Development Update #3 - Vending Machine

Hello,
This is the third development update, still regarding the up coming 1.13 update.
Vending machines
I've been working on the new vending machine system I talked about at the end of my last development post and it's now implemented fully into the unreleased 1.13 version of the game. When you complete tasks you are now rewareded with an amount of cash based on how challenging (read : how exposed you are while completing and how long the task takes). This cash can then be used to purcahse items from vending machines which are scattered around the map. The vending machines have the same items for all players however one player purchasing an item and subsequently not being able to rebuy that item for the rest of the round does not mean that other players can't purchase that item although this is something I am going to be messing around with.

In the picture bellow you can see what vending machines look like

I will probably expose some of the vending machine variables in the game config which is editable at the start of a game (again coming in this update).

Right now I have a long list of ideas that may or may not be good as items in the game which I am working through and implementing and I'm hoping to get this whole update out before the 2 year anniversary of the game's release (December 9th).

This update will hopefully improve the gameplay to be a bit less repetative and boring. After this update I will be looking at new maps and new enemies / employee types that players can select from.

Building and releasing these updates does take a long time however for the most part the slow time is because this isn't my full time job or priority so bear with me on this.

Cheers,
ValleyHound
