Devlog #50 - The Best Boi

Hello Talented Gamers!

DEVLOG 50! WE MADE IT!

I want to give a massive thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read these, we certainly didn't expect to keep them going as long as we have!

This time we'll be revealing some of the new Talents that will be bursting onto the tree with the 0.12 update for Warrior, Summoner and Bandit! If you didn't catch last devlog and want to know more about how Talent Packages are being reworked and what Archer and Wizard have to look forward to, you can find that here.

Curveball

Warrior will be chucking some shiny new weapons in 0.12.

Throwing Weapons come from a handful of different sources. New Talents allow you to throw them every few seconds, New Abilities will let you throw them on command and the Axes from Axe Toss also count as Thrown Weapons.

With Talents from the Fastball Talent Package you'll be able to build around Throwing Weapons even further!

Friends Til the End

Summoner is getting his most loyal summon yet!

Once you've summoned the Ghost Puppy, he'll keep returning to you until the end of the Night - even if he dies! Remember that a pet is for life though, every dog deserves a healthy diet and a cute collar!

Shop Til you Drop

We're building out Bandit's identity further in 0.12 by giving him some new mechanics core to his class.

Spree Talents will reward you for entering the Shop, these buffs can get pretty out of control if you enter the Shop multiple times in a single Night...

Lucky for you we'll be adding even more ways to do that!

We're also experimenting with Talent Packages giving classes access to mechanics usually reserved for other classes. Some clever people already made the connection between Wizard's Elementals and Summoner's Helpers!

Bandit is next in line, receiving a Combo Package in 0.12.

Our goal with any class getting Talent Packages that use a mechanic from another class is to make sure:

- They feel like they're accessing that mechanic in a unique way that's on-brand for the class
- They're never the "master" of that mechanic in the same way the class that owns it is (Bandit should never get combo benefits as powerful as Warrior!)

Of course that's only a sneak peek at the Talent Packages coming next update, there are plenty more we haven't revealed yet. We can't wait to see what you make of them when the update drops.

Thank you so much for joining us for the 50th Devlog and double thanks if you've been reading for a while! Next time we'll be revealing the new Endless Nightmare feature and will hopefully be ready to show off some Damage Numbers. Until then...

Devlog #49 - Re-Packaged

Hello Talented Gamers!

We're moving swiftly on to our second major feature of patch 0.12 - Talent Packages 2.0!

After hearing a ton of feedback on how the old system worked, we've reworked this feature from the ground up. The main points we want to hit are:

  • Give you more influence over which Talent Packages appear on the tree.
  • Give you more opportunities for unique builds.

Discovery Talents can now be found on the Talent Tree giving you a choice of 3 random Talent Packages to choose from.

When you make a choice, that Package will then take over the surrounding area, swapping unlearnt Common Talents with Rares and unlearnt Rares with Epics/Abilities.

Discovery Talents will appear at a similar rate to Epic Talents but start to show up slightly higher on the tree. This does mean you'll finally be able to access more than 2 Talent Packages in a single run!

New Stuff

Of course we can't update the new Talent Package system and not give you some new toys to play with! This week I'll reveal some of the new mechanics that Archer and Wizard will be getting.

Having a Blast

Archer will be getting some extra firepower in the form of Homing Missiles. These cheeky chappys seek out the nearest enemy and deal 50% of your Attack Damage on impact, they can be deadly in large numbers.

There will be plenty of ways to fill the screen with them, but here's a couple to get your started.

And of course, like anything it Talented - you can upgrade it!

Helpers...? On Wizard...?

Wizard will be getting something far more sensible (I'm kidding).

Introducing Elementals - these fun little friends will be summoned through a variety of Talents and Abilities.

Elementals can be Fire, Wind, Earth or Frost and each of them applies a Status Effect (Burning, Shocked, Wounded and Frostbite in that order). Once you've got them, you'll be on the hunt for ways to make them even more powerful.

There are even more Talent Packages for our other 3 classes to reveal next time - so keep your googlys peeled for more news! Until then...

Devlog #48 - Skintimidation

Hello Talented Gamers!

We've been hard at work developing the first major feature of 0.12 - our Challenge system - and there's so much to share!

As mentioned in our original announcement, each class with be getting 3 challenges just for them (totaling 15). Challenges are intended to be a twist on the classic Talented gameplay that either pushes a certain playstyle to the extreme or gives you something entirely unique.

A nod to some of our favorite games and a commonly requested feature. You can finally be the turret you were born to be!

Ever wonder what Talented would be like if you just had EVERYTHING?

Everyone wanted a Talented babysitter mode, right?

Rewards

Better yet! You won't just be playing for pride, each challenge rewards either a Legendary Talent unlock for that class, or a skin.

0.12 will have 5 Legendary Talents and 10 SKINS

We always felt bad about adding the 0.1 second Time Between Attacks cap, so we've let you demolish that!

Each skin comes with some very small adjustments to base stats (and perhaps the occasional custom mechanic). These are mostly intended to add a little bit of flavor, but I'm sure some people will have fun min-maxing...

Challenges should be dropping on our Community Beta Branch very soon, if you're interested in helping us improve this and even more features you can check out the Beta Tester program Here! We'd love to have you.

More Balance

We've also been working with our Beta Testers to fix some balance outliers in the 0.11 update, with a particular focus on Bandit (since he's our newest character).

We tried a few different versions of Mining Operation before setting on this one, it should keep the feeling of a growing (and potentially infinite) economy but be a little less game breaking.

We felt both Bladed Round and Fireworks rounds were underwhelming compared to other rares, so they've been brought up to speed.

Axe Toss has felt like the inferior Warrior starting ability for quite some time. Not only have we buffed the base ability, but his Level 12 upgrades should be much more appealing now too

That should be plenty to chew on this time! Next Devlog I will be diving into the changes to Talent Packages and hopefully revealing some of the new Talents you can unlock.

Devlog #47 - Rise to the Challenge

Hello Talented Gamers!

We hope you're enjoying 0.11, especially after the hotfixes that should bring Archer and Bandit up to scratch and fix that pesky Orbs bug. But enough about the past - new update, new me!

Challenges

It's our first major feature of 0.12! Challenges will offer a variety of ways to play each of your favorite classes each with their own set of custom rules designed to provide a unique problem to solve.

Next update will contain 15 Challenges in total (3 for each Class) and all of these will have their own completion reward!

Next Devlog will be a deep dive into the Challenges System and the rewards you can expect, so keep an eye out for that.

Re-Packaging

This is going to be a huge update for Talent Packages! Every Class will be getting some new toys to play with and we'll be paying special attention to the Bandit as has some catching up to do in the Talent Count department.

If all goes as planned we should cross over the 300 Talent mark in this update!

When it comes to how Talent Packages are added to the run, things have always felt off. As we mentioned in a previous devlog, the reroll button was only a short term solution for selecting Talent Packages.

0.12 will contain a complete refactor for how the Packages are chosen and added to the tree. We've listened closely and we want to make sure you have the opportunity to influence which packages are chosen but also want opportunities to find unique builds.

How will we make that happen? - Find out in a future devlog!

More Stuff!

We'll also be throwing in some additional minor features, some of which have been requested in the Steam Discussion forums and our Discord server (do keep that feedback rolling in!)

Eternal Nightmare - A new way to truly put your build to the test after you've completed a run. (Note: This is not Endless Mode, but should help scratch that itch for now!)

Optional Damage Numbers - Pew-Pew Number Big

Core Talents Update - Some larger scope balance changes are coming to Core Talents... More on this later.

20 New Achievements - New content means new ways to break the game - and in Talented you get rewarded for it!

And of course there will be the usual Quality of Life changes, bug fixes and balance changes that every update contains! Looking forward to diving into the details with you all next time...

Price Increase on 16/1

Hello Talented Gamers!

As mentioned in devlog #46, we will be increasing the price of Talented 1 week after 0.11's release which will be tomorrow. This gives you one final day to get Talented at its current price before it increases to $2.99 (USD) with prices in other regions determined by Steam's price recommendation.

Our original plan was to increase the price with the release of 0.11 but add a week long sale where it would be available at the old price. Unfortunately when we went to do that we discovered that you cannot put a game on sale within 30 days of upping the cost (which makes sense in hindsight!).

We've been told more times than we can count that we could be charging more for all of the content we offer, so I really want to thank everyone in the community for giving us the confidence to do this. Hopefully our continued dedication to making Talented as good as it can be will go some of the way to repaying you.
