Vintage Ventures in BeamNG.drive v0.34

Season's greetings, drivers, and welcome to the highlights blog for our 0.34 update! This release introduces a highly anticipated new vehicle, expands the selection of vehicle parts, delivers a set of fresh gameplay challenges, as well as numerous fixes and improvements. So follow along while we chaperon you through all the details.
NEW VEHICLE: Bruckell Nine
Headlining this season's lineup is the Bruckell Nine, a highly anticipated pre-war vehicle. Carefully crafted to reflect the era's iconic design and historical authenticity, it's a perfect fusion of vintage sophistication and practical functionality.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The Bruckell Nine is one of our most versatile and refined vehicles to date. With nine different body styles – two coupe options, a sedan, a roadster, two van variants, two pickup styles, and a driver seat on a bodyless frame, it offers extensive customization possibilities.

The vehicle debuts with a heap of customization options that cater to both period-appropriate and modern applications. These include a hot rod and restomod parts, glass tint, and mechanical components. While factory variants retain the unique characteristic quirks and "janky" handling of a 1930s vehicle, modernized configurations bring smoother handling with advanced suspension and wheel upgrades, ideal for racing enthusiasts or those looking to test speed limits.

With this release we're also expanding the lighting system to simulate the gradual illumination of vintage halogen bulbs. This improvement introduces smooth transitions when turning headlights on and off, rather than toggling them instantly. For now, this feature is exclusive to the Nine, complete with a slight dimming effect during engine startup.
New Parts, Tweaks, and Fixes
But the holiday fun doesn't stop there! The Gavril Grand Marshall is getting a new widebody kit called the Slider, paired with a distinctive livery not likely to be seen on a big American sedan, it's tuned to take corners in style. The Drag configuration also benefits from several new aftermarket parts, sound tuning, and fixes for known issues.

For our law enforcement enthusiasts, we've upgraded police configurations across the board! We've expanded options to include police, undercover, emergency beacon lights, light bars, and flashers on vehicles that lacked them. Older police models now include antennas and halogen flashers, and some have gained new interior controls for beacon lights and light bars. The modern light bar now features selectable flash patterns, glass colors and accessories, as well as better optimization.

We didn't stop there - fixes, tweaks, and updates were applied to a variety of vehicles, including Burnside Special, Civetta Scintilla, ETK 800-Series, ETK-I Series, Gavril MD-Series, Roamer, and T-Series, the Ibishu BX-Series, and the Soliad Wendover, among others. Dive into the release notes for the full details!
West Coast, USA Improvements
On the environment side, several areas on West Coast, USA received another round of polish.

The Belasco Motorsports Park has been updated with a revamped parking lot and surroundings, along with a brand-new gravel off-road course adjacent to the track. Additional off-road sections have been introduced near the start of the mainland bridge, along with further optimizations on off-road areas throughout the map.

Bus shelters have been redesigned to better align with the aesthetics of the maps on Italy, West Coast, East Coast, Utah, and Jungle Rock Island. These shelters also feature updated bus route map textures.

Other improvements include memory optimizations and various updates to roads, forest, terrain, decalroads, AI decalroads and collision meshes, and more.
Gameplay
Drift enthusiasts, there's a new way to challenge your skills! No need to commit to a full Drift Challenge - we've added seven Freeroam Drift Zones in West Coast, USA!

As you explore the map, keep an eye out for blue road signs signifying drift zones. Start drifting near a sign to activate the system, which tracks your high scores and sets goals for you to beat. Then, drift all the way to the next sign and rack up points to complete the challenge!

We've also revamped the drift scoring system - instead of being time-based, it's now distance-based, so slower drifts will no longer provide better rewards than faster drifts over the same distance.

For drag racing, we've introduced a new precision-based challenge: Dial Racing. Set your target time before the race starts and aim to get closer to it than your opponent without overshooting. On top of that, we've improved automatic opponent selection and added a history feature which allows you to review past results.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Three new challenges join the missions lineup: Bootleg Runner on Utah, Hotrod Club on East Coast, USA, and Vintage Hauler on Small Island.

Alongside these additions, we've implemented a number of fixes and quality-of-life improvements across the gameplay systems. Most major challenges now have an updated UI with new start, end, and detail screens. The "Move to Start" feature replaces countdowns across many missions, and time-of-day settings can now be customized for select missions.
New in World Editor: Biome Tool
For the map makers among you, we're excited to unveil the new Biome Tool, designed to streamline your workflow. By utilizing mask controls and adjustable parameters, it allows you to populate the map with diverse foliage elements effortlessly. Using the Biome Tool, you can do in minutes what used to take days!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We've also improved the Resource Checker's UI, and added the ability to see how materials are used within the map. And last, but certainly not least, we've added a work in progress edit mode for the Traffic Manager, which will allow you to easily place and control traffic vehicles, props, and signals, complete with save-and-load functionality for your traffic layouts.

Naturally, there's so much more packed into this release than we've covered so far. Other changes include improvements for AI and traffic, reworked electrics handling, new and tweaked sounds, progress on our experimental Linux support, updates for the JBeam debugging and visualization tools, and fixes for a wide range of bugs and crashes.

Haul the Harvest in BeamNG.drive v0.33

As the days grow shorter and the weather colder, we're rolling out something to keep you cozy and entertained indoors. Version 0.33 brings a new vehicle, loads of fixes and improvements for vehicles, levels, and gameplay, along with a powerful new tool for the World Editor. Crucial work has also been done under the hood, clearing the path for future improvements.
NEW VEHICLE: Gavril MD-Series
Introducing the Gavril MD-Series, a versatile medium-duty truck that bridges the gap between the D-Series light trucks and the T-Series heavyweights.

This beast is available in both early and late variants, with three cab options and extensive customization possibilities. You can choose from various wheel and tire variants with several different sizes, and pick from a wide range of loading configurations, such as a pickup bed, fifth wheel, two flatbed sizes, and specialized upfits for logging, dumping, cargo boxes, ambulances, and tankers.

For those who crave off-road adventure, the Gavril MD-Series offers four dedicated 4WD configurations, two of which uniquely combine the transfer case rangebox with the gearbox splitter for very low gearing. But that's not all - some upfits now include JATO Rockets with newly updated materials, and paired with the Ram Plow, they transform the truck into a traffic-destroying machine!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Gavril T-Series Remake Part 3
The T-Series remake is reaching its conclusion with this third and final update, which introduces several highly requested features.

Among those is a new, shorter variant of the fifth wheel frame, several interesting axle configurations - such as twin-steer, tri-drive and a passive steering lift axle with rather interesting handling characteristics (lift it before reversing) and, for the racing enthusiasts, we've also added an option for a V8 engine with up to 3000 HP for loaded-truck drag races! And if that's not fast enough, how about adding JATO rockets?

Theis round also brings several new configs, including one with a tridem rear suspension, suitable for steel coil transport, and a twin steer dump truck with better maneuvering. Some existing configurations have also been updated with the addition of more powerful engines, lift axle or twin steer for better handling of heavy loads.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
New Vehicle Parts
Ibishu Pessima and Hirochi SBR4 received a number of new configs, aftermarket parts, and fresh liveries. Smaller fixes and improvements were done for several other vehicles, including the Autobello Piccolina, Bruckell Legran, Civetta Scintilla, Hirochi Sunburst, and Soliad Lansdale, among many more, as well as some fixes to the container trailer and several props.

And for those among you who appreciate the finer details: the Porta Potty now spawns in a correct orientation, and the latch issue has been resolved! For a full breakdown, be sure to check the patch notes.
West Coast, USA Improvements
In the levels department, another round of improvements has been done to several areas in West Coast, USA, including the Belasco and Spearleaf Shuffleboard Logistics area, the road network in the Spearleaf Marine Logistics area, the diner, the dirt track, and the tunnel lanes to the island, among others.

We've updated the island refinery entrances, revamped parking, improved island sidewalks with better paths, and replaced highway toll booths with new models. Smaller bug fixes address issues with unused materials, floating objects, and mesh errors. Plus, Chinatown shops now feature accurate Chinese signage. 加油!
Missions
The missions system is getting a refresh with a range of new challenges!

All single-player Scenarios have been converted into missions and we've thoroughly polished the existing missions, including updates to player vehicles. Additionally, seven brand-new missions have been introduced - the Gavril MD-Series now features a Delivery mission in Italy, a Crawl mission in Johnson Valley, and an Evade mission in East Coast, USA. Italy is getting a Time Trial mission, while West Coast, USA receives two Gymkhana (drift) missions, with another added to the Industrial Site.

A brand-new drag racing system has been implemented, usable both in and outside of missions, with customizable drag race types. We’ve added four new drag missions — two in Gridmap V2 and West Coast. The Drag Practice Mode can be entered in freeroam without any loading screen, just approach the stage line and go! Additionally, drag nodes have been added to the Flowgraph system, enabling the creation of drag missions anywhere.

The Drift mission type has undergone extensive improvements. Scoring and combo systems have been fine-tuned, offering a more balanced and rewarding experience. Several new stunt zones have been added, and now it's also possible to add an unlimited number of stunt zones to Drift challenges. Furthermore, the visibility of stunt zones has been drastically improved with an updated drawing method, resulting in far better drift detection accuracy, especially at low speeds.
NEW: Road Architect Tool
This is a powerful addition to the World Editor which will allow you to procedurally design and configure detailed road networks that integrate with other BeamNG features. With Road Architect Tool, you will be able to sculpt terrain using advanced terraforming tools, lay down a variety of roads and junctions, connect them, and then focus on detail work to customize the road network to your exact specifications. The tool already comes with a variety of ready-to-use objects and materials for your customization needs.

Along with the Road Architect Tool, we've made other fixes to the World Editor, including UI changes, improved tooltips, and a dedicated button for dummy materials cleanup.

Sprouting Makeovers in BeamNG.drive v0.32

Greetings, drivers, and welcome to our first big update of 2024! We’ve got some great stuff waiting for you in this update, including a remastered vehicle, the continuing remake of Gavril T-Series, new props, new camera mode, and a ton of fixes and improvements.
Remastered Ibishu BX
First up, we have the artist formerly known as Ibishu 200BX - now the Ibishu BX-Series -, which has undergone a full remaster in this update. This includes fully updated meshes and textures throughout, new bodykits and customization options, and a V8 Swap. We've added the new 'Diana' variants, completely redone the suspension geometry, and turned the old coupe bodystyle into a liftback. The BX-series is getting an additional coupe bodystyle with a brand-new design, and we've doubled the number of playable configurations!
Gavril T-Series Remake Part 2
As part of its continuing remake, the Gavril T-Series is receiving a logging upfit, with two frame variants: a long upfit frame with a short straight frame end, and a medium upfit frame with a medium straight frame end. The new headache rack will be equipped by default on the logging upfit, but is also available for the fifth wheel upfit.

We’ve also added a ton of visual customization options for parts like bumpers, grills, and exhausts. The Gavril T-Series is also getting a low air wig wag warning, more customization options for the 900CUI Belasco diesel engine, beacon lights, and mirror antennas. The Mixer Upfit is being remastered, with a new realistic self-leveling pneumatic suspension. This new system offers single and multi-axle support, mechanical input for the self-leveling control, and a manual ride height override.

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, some of the planned features were not included in the current release. This means that you have more to look forward to in future updates, including a V8 engine, additional frame options, and more axle configurations.
New Trailers, Loads, and Props
We’ve added a new Log Trailer, with two variants - a two-axle 27ft variant and a three-axle 40ft variant, each with an optional headache rack. The 40ft variant is equipped with a fifth wheel, making B-Train configurations possible. You're also getting empty and loaded variants, with either eight or 12 logs of varying types of wood. The new trailers are compatible with the new 4m Logs prop.

In addition to the new trailer, we’ve made some changes to the Dry Van, Flatbed, Small Flatbed, and Tanker trailers, as well as the Trailer Dolly. We’ve made a number of fixes to trailers as well, including fixing the locker position on the three-axle trailer bogie (we know you’ve been worried about that), addressing light-related clipping issues, and we did our best to fix a rare issue that caused trailers to explode when attached to the dolly.

In the props department, two new props have been added. The new Logs prop is compatible with the Log Trailer as well as the T-Series’ new logging upfit, and comes in several variants, including single logs and stacks of between six and 23 logs. The length and diameter of the logs are adjustable, and will affect the logs’ weight, as will the type of wood the logs are made of - there are eight wood types available, each with its own density which will affect the weight of the log. All the logs can float on water.

The new Steel Coil comes in 5, 10, 20, and 30-ton variants, and is excellent for overloading trailers and crushing cars. The size of the coils can be adjusted from the tuning menu when used as a standalone prop, which will affect their weight. The Steel Coil can be loaded on the Flatbed Trailer.
West Coast, USA Improvements
The West Coast, USA map has received further improvements!

We’ve updated the concrete batching plant area, the Quarry, and the Fast Automotive facility. Several floating and collision bugs were hunted down and eliminated without mercy, and we’ve continued the process of updating to PBR by updating some more materials. We’ve added a fuel station next to the logistics garage, reworked the residential area near the movie studio, and reworked the fences of the single houses in the suburbs. We’ve also updated roads and road markings to improve the driving experience, reworked major intersections and highway sections, and installed speed cameras. Big Brother is watching, now and always…
Missions
We’ve added five new missions - Desert Rally Stage and Outlander Valet in Johnson Valley, Prospector’s Return in Utah, Mixed Surface Stage in East Coast USA, and Drop and Dive in West Coast USA - and made a ton of tweaks, changes, fixes, and general polish to missions in general. This includes new anti-cheating barriers in BeamNG Sport Race - Automation Test Track, improved camera paths for Time Trial missions, and much more.

We’ve been hard at work on improving the drifting systems as well. The drift backend has been almost entirely refactored and optimized, which will make future implementations much easier and more robust. We’ve improved drift detection - ‘Drifting’ is now detected sooner than before, which will make chaining drifts significantly easier. Drift scoring has also been improved. The score spread between experienced and beginner drifters has been reduced, which will make it easier to balance drift missions. The scoring will now more accurately reward players for drifting at higher speed, with bigger angles, and near walls. The combo increment has been reduced, and its logic has been changed to reward players for longer drifts.

Drift logic is now always running in the background. Thanks to this, we now have drift-related statistics! Everyone loves statistics, right? We’ve also added an experimental ‘spinout’ logic. When spinning out (or crashing), a “Drift Failed: Cause” message will appear. We’ve also added a ‘Wrong Way’ message if you’re heading in the wrong direction on an A to B drift mission, which will be displayed if the player is heading the wrong direction. To make this experience less stressful, we’ve also removed the timer for these missions.
Vehicle Improvements
All of our cars have received detailed mirror support, while some of the more modern ones have undergone a mirror physics structure revamp to allow them to fold manually without breaking off straight away. We’ve also done some tire work, retuning a number of tires, and added two new wheels - the Civetta Stradale and Civetta Dark Owl 22x12 wheels, with matching tire sizes.

The Autobello Piccolina’s doors will no longer sustain damage when opening wide, and we’ve also fixed a literally unplayable typo in a skin name for the Autobello Stambecco, given it a roof bars option, added body-mounted license plate options, and introduced cargo load options.

We’ve added a couple of new simplified traffic cars: the Bruckell Bastion, Soliad Wendover, Gavril Grand Marshal, Gavril Roamer, Gavril D-Series, and the Gavril H-Series. In addition, we’ve improved the suspension for the ETK I-Series, ETK K-Series, ETK 800-Series, and the Ibishu 200BX. The simplified traffic LeGran has received many fixes, and we've added the wagon and facelift variants. For all traffic cars, we stiffened the tires to improve AI handling and reduce the chances of rollovers, tweaked deformation on head-on crashes and side impacts, and fixed some spiking issues.

We’ve also made improvements and fixes to many other vehicles, like the ETK I- and 800-Series, the Soliad Wendover, and the Soliad Lansdale, and Hirochi Sunburst, among others.
Force Feedback Improvements
We’re constantly looking into ways to make vehicle handling more realistic, and to more transparently transmit the steering rack torques to your steering wheel. For this update, we're glad to announce that some of our ongoing research has led to a minor but noticeable improvement on this front.

Your mileage may vary: for some, this improvement might feel almost imperceptible, while for others it'll be really noticeable. This depends on framerate, steering wheel and settings, vehicle suspension geometry, road surface detail and driving style. The improvements should be most noticeable when trying to catch minor accidental slides, when avoiding tankslappers, and when drifting intentionally. Those should happen more transparently now, helping drive with more confidence than before. Players might also feel slightly reduced vibrations in the wheel, especially when racing normally.
New Engine Sounds!
We've updated the i4 1600cc 'Motorsport' and i4 2000 'Endurance' turbo engine/exhaust, which you'll be able to hear on the BX series for 1600 and 1600 & 2000 on Cherrier, among other engine audio changes. We also introduced water splash sounds and a new way of naming blends for better future-proofing, check the patch notes for more details on that.
Crash Camera
And last, but certainly not least - we’ve added a Crash Cam! Once enabled in the gameplay options, the Crash Cam will automatically capture your crashes in glorious slow-motion. It includes several modes and will select one of them at random. The Crash Cam is currently only available in Freeroam mode, so go check it out and please share any feedback with us in the dedicated forum thread!

This is by no means all of the changes we’re bringing you in this update. There’s a whole truckload of fixes, tweaks, changes and polish, so check out the patch notes for more information.
