The Finishing Sprint For The Demo (AI Devlog #13)

Hey guys,

So, we’re 244 hours into development, and with less than a week before submitting the demo, it’s been a wild mix of excitement, exhaustion, and endless debugging.

It’s been a mix of fun struggles and endless errors, but also exciting progress along the way.

In this devlog, you’ll see:

How I wrapped up Act 3 and pushed through the final stages of Act 2 — including building out the Town scene and all its building actions.

My work on the new random morning events system that adds replayability and unpredictability to each in-game day.

A behind-the-scenes look at making the official trailer, where I mixed AI-generated cutscenes, voiceovers, and music… and maybe got a bit too carried away with it.

Scarred Steel Devlog #12 - Fixing My Game’s 2nd Ugliest Screen

[p]Hey guys,[/p][p]So, my combat scene looked bad. Like embarrassingly bad. And I had just a few days to turn it around before the demo deadline loomed over me.[/p][p]This is my first ever game and I’ve decided to build it with AI because I have zero coding experience.[/p][p]It’s been a mix of fun struggles and endless errors, but also exciting progress along the way.[/p][p]In this devlog, you’ll see:[/p]
  • [p]How I wrestled with the combat UI and finally found a cleaner, more immersive layout[/p]
  • [p]Why I switched from a Heads Will Roll-style HUD to something closer to Darkest Dungeon[/p]
  • [p]My honest thoughts as I sprint toward submitting the demo before Steam Next Fest kicks off[/p]

Scarred Steel Devlog #11 - Fixing My Game’s Ugliest Screen

[p]Hey guys,[/p][p]We’re now about 177 hours into development, and the big focus this week has been fixing my awful-looking UI. [/p][p]Honestly, it looked terrible before, and I only just realized I should probably be using references from other games to guide me.[/p][p][/p][p]In this devlog, you’ll see:[/p]
  • [p]The struggle of remaking my UI from scratch after realizing how bad it looked[/p]
  • [p]Progress on the new Victory Detail Panel and functional inventory/reward system[/p]
  • [p]How I pulled references from Heads Will Roll: Reforged and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord to improve visuals[/p]
  • [p]Updates on the demo scope as I juggle ideas, cut features, and focus on hitting the Steam Next Fest deadline in under 3 weeks[/p]

Scarred Steel Devlog #10 – Act 1 Complete + Art Overhaul

[p]Hey guys,[/p][p]So, I’ve hit around 150 hours of development and the main struggle this week has been figuring out what belongs in the demo vs. what should wait for the full game. [/p][p]It’s way too easy to get excited about features and forget that the short-term goal is a playable demo for Steam Next Fest.[/p][p]This is my first ever game and I’ve decided to build it with AI because I have zero coding experience.[/p][p]It’s been a mix of fun struggles and endless errors, but also exciting progress along the way.[/p][p]In this devlog, you’ll see:[/p]
  • [p]Wrestling with the demo vs. full game scope problem[/p]
  • [p]Progress on the town hub (7-day cycle, working buildings, arena fights, and character interactions)[/p]
  • [p]Going back through all my assets to unify the art style after bouncing between parchment, oil-painting, and cinematic looks[/p]
  • [p]A bit on how I juggle having one AI “coding tab” and one AI “art tab” open while building Scarred Steel[/p]
