Gatling Gun & Vulcan Cannon

Introducing the first 2 new units since the game's launch! Gatling Gun and Vulcan Cannon do not belong to a legion. They are playable in any game mode with Mastermind, Chaos, and Hybrid builders. We're taking this approach for Gatling Gun, Vulcan Cannon, and likely for future units because:
 • It allows us to release new units faster and with fewer limitations
 • The vast majority of players use Mastermind, Chaos, and Hybrid
 • 8 legions are enough options for new players who are learning the game

Gatling Gun
Gold cost: 180
Health: 900
Damage: 31
Attack speed: 2.0
Range: 800
Attack type: Pierce
Defense Type: Fortified

Full Throttle
Cannot move. Attacks up to 100% faster the closer the target is.

Vulcan Cannon
Upgrade cost: 340
Health: 2570
Damage: 80
Attack speed: 2.0
Range: 800
Attack type: Pierce
Defense Type: Fortified

Bullet Rain
Cannot move. Attacks up to 130% faster the closer the target is.

Gatling Gun and Vulcan Cannon are high skill cap units that rely on good positioning. Build them close enough to the wave to maximize their DPS output, but not so close that they get targeted too early! Because they cannot move, you often want them to build above your main army, but make sure to protect them on ranged waves.

Imperial Dino & Underworld Green Devil

First new skins since the game's launch!

 • Snail With A Dream (+33%)
 • C H O N K Y Nekomata (+50%)
 • Sunny Side Eggsack (+88%)
 • Fiesta (+250%)
 • Et tu, Brute? (+250%)
 • Death by Natural Causes (+300%)

Major Improvements
 • New sound effects for pinging “expecting a send” and “thinking about sending on” via pinging the top wave bar
 • Sell, Sacrifice, and Delicacy tooltips now show the total gold you will have

 • Mythium tooltip now shows estimated mythium at the end of the build phase, based on your current mythium, workers, and time until next wave

 • Skin names are now shown when selecting a unit, colored by rarity

Minor Improvements
 • Classic: Now shows W/L in loading screen, instead of just wins
 • MVP: Improved formula
 • Tooltips: Role text is now displayed when holding CTRL to view unit stats
 • Tooltips: Unit damage tooltip now shows attack speed increase
 • Postgame: Clicking a build to copy it to your clipboard now saves the mythium received that wave
 • Custom Games: Invite Friend menu now is sorted alphabetically, so that names don’t jump around
 • HUD: Sacrifice should now always come before active abilities, which means it will have the “R” hotkey instead of “T.” No more accidentally sacrificed kitties!
 • HUD: Sacrifice ability will no longer be shown if a unit can already be sold for 100%
 • Audio: Fixed a bug where fast attacking units didn’t play their attack sounds as often as they were supposed to
 • Game Coach: Tweaked “Not enough DPS/Tanks” thresholds

Major Fixes
 • FairPlay: Fixed a cosmetic bug where suspensions appeared to still be active even after they had expired
 • Legion Spells: Fixed a bug where full-selling a unit that had Hero, Vampire, Magician, Villain, Titan, Guardian Angel, Protector, Sorcrerer, or Pulverizer applied to it didn’t refund the spell
 • Fixed a bug where the West team could not thumbs-up "Good Game" opponent players

Minor Fixes
 • Lifebars: Fixed a cosmetic bug where a king’s lifebar would appear to be non-empty when it already died
 • Profiles: Fixed a bug where in some cases, clicking a player’s name → View Profile would break the back button
 • Campaign: Fixed a few bugs with restart not resetting some things properly
 • Fixed a bug where some units’ Pawn Shop tooltip displayed an incorrect sell amount (off by 1 gold)
 • Fixed Unchained Rage and Rogue Wave tooltips
 • Improved the clarity of Creditor tooltip
 • Audio: Fixed a bug where a really loud click sound played when selecting multiple units
 • MVP Tooltip: Fixed a bug where “Most Leaks Caused” was incorrectly displayed or not displayed
 • Pings: Fixed a bug where pinging a player’s power score at the start of a match would sometimes display a value from a previous game
 • Rare Bug: Fixed a rare case where a player was unable to train 2x workers after wave 15
 • Profiles: Fixed a bug with loading older profiles getting stuck trying to load non-existent match history
 • Sandbox: Fixed a bug where choosing Mastermind builder multiple times didn’t allow you to re-choose your playstyle
 • Queued Mercenaries: Fixed a bug where some queued mercenaries sometimes weren’t hired in time

Game Balance

Balance Philosophy
We balance Legion TD 2 by looking at:
 • Data. This includes but is not limited to win rates, pick rates, usage rates, opening win rates, opening usage rates, end wave distribution, and average game time.
 • Player feedback, including balance discussion and tier lists.
 • Playing the game ourselves and considering what changes will make the most fun.

Usually when a unit receives balance changes it's because that unit is strong (or weak) enough that it's crowding out (or being crowded out by) other units. Balancing that unit increases variety and player choice/expression, and makes the game more fun.

1v1
Leaks now move faster when all players finish their lane battles (same as 4v4).

King
- Health increased by 5% on wave 20
Legion Spells
Sacrifice
- Gold: 90 → 85

Sacrifice is good every game, and one of the strongest legion spells when you plan around it.

Sorcerer
- Ability damage bonus: 52.5% → 55%

Sorcerer is both niche (with one of the lowest pick rates) and has the lowest game state-adjusted win rate of any legion spell.
Fighters
Pack Rat
- Treasure Hunt: Mythium gained: 10 → 11

Making Treasure Hunting more rewarding and buffing what's unique about Pack Rat.

Chained Fist & Oathbreaker
Unchained Rage: When activated, now resets the attack cooldown for more consistent behavior

Angler
- Junior fisherman: Mana gain: 1.5 → 1.75

The Angler line is underperforming. Kingpin is strong, but it’s just not worth the investment. This buff encourages players to add an Angler to their opening, without necessarily fully committing to a Kingpin-centric build.

Aqua Spirit
- Attack speed: 0.781 → 0.794

Fire Elemental
- Attack speed: 0.806 → 0.82

Elite Archer / Trinity Archer
- Attack speed: 1.02 → 1.04

Disciple
- Health: 1200 → 1150

Starcaller
- Health: 2960 → 2850

Viable as an opening, strong early and late game, and enables multiple synergies. Disciple and Starcaller are too strong.

Priestess of the Abyss
- Attack speed: 0.98 → 1

Azeria
- Health: 3250 >> 3300
- Attack speed: 0.98 → 1

Bringing back a fun, high-skill cap opening and interesting strategies like Grarl → Azeria on waves 7-9.

Holy Avenger
- Health: 2430 → 2600
- Aegis: Damage reduction: 4% → 2%
- Buffed synergy with mana gain by 14% to compensate for weaker ability

Sovereign
- Health: 6230 → 6660
- Final Judgment: Damage reduction: 4% → 2%
- Buffed synergy with mana gain by 11% to compensate for weaker ability

Nerfing their synergy with lifesteal without significantly affecting their power in comps without lifesteal.

Great Boar
- Stampede: Attack speed reduction: 6% → 4%

Red Eyes
- Thunderous Charge: Attack speed reduction: 15% → 10%

Great Boar and Red Eyes are too strong in the late game.
Mercenaries
Ghost Knight
- Health: 3900 → 4000

Ghost Knight remains one of the least used mercenaries in the game.
Waves
(20) Maccabeus
- Damage: 190 → 200

Too many counters neutralize Maccabeus.

Friendly reminder that the season ends on January 6th. Best of luck in the final weeks of the season. Remember you cannot drop ranked rewards by playing. Rewards are based on your peak rank this season.

Sincerely,
Lisk, Jules, Curing, and Dani

Season End & 1v1 Featured Game Mode

Congratulations to the winners of the Superstar Cup, Xmithie and Widderson! Coming into the playoffs as seed 3, they smashed through Firebat and Ashton Butcher 2-0 in the semis. In the final against seed 1 Gaara and XGod37, they lost the first game on wave 10. In game two, they won with an unexpected strategy, locking in Bone Warrior and Gateguard, instead of using the tournament meta Greed. Not dropping another game, they closed out the series 3-1.

1st: Ganked by Bananas
Xmithie and Widderson

2nd: Atomic Pyro
Gaara and XGod37

T-3rd: Crash and Burn / Nekrspirit
Firebat and Ashton Butcher / Nekrpain and Greenspirit

New Features & Quality of Life

Expected patch release: Monday, November 15

This patch focuses on new features, quality of life, and 4v4 matchmaking. Next major patch will likely include the first new units since the game's launch. In between, there may be a balance-only patch.

Superstar Cup

The Superstar Cup is a 2-day tournament featuring influencers (including Amaz, Meteos, SivHD, Xmithie, Aesirprenke, Gaara, Gela, Chu8, and more), top ladder players, and developers. The Superstar Cup will be casted and streamed on November 27-28. Stay tuned for more details.

Waves Bar

 • Now it is easier to see when your opponent is saving mythium and what sends you received on the current/previous waves (via tooltip)
 • Now it is easier to see the upcoming waves, without having to check the Wave Info window.
 • You can also ping each wave. Pinging past waves/the current wave will show how much mythium you received. Pinging future waves will say you are either expecting a send on that wave (left-click), or thinking about sending on that wave (right-click).

Fighter Roles

Now you have more information about units at your fingertips when drafting your rolls. An arrow icon indicates that role only applies to an upgrade. For example, Pyro has AoE and Zeus uses mana, so "AoE" and "Mana" are listed by Bazooka with an arrow.

Auto-pause

When a player disconnects, it will now automatically pause the game for up to 60 seconds until they return. Any player can skip waiting if they don’t want to wait.

Postgame Thumbs Up & Reporting

Quickly tell your teammate “Good game” by clicking the thumbs-up icon. Quickly report a player by clicking the “!” icon.

Gift-a-Friend (free)

You can now send a one-time free gift of 1,000 Premium Essence to any friend! Show your thanks to the person who introduced you to Legion TD 2. You can only do this once. To do this, click Shop, then Buy Premium Essence then Gift-a-Friend.

You can also think of this as a referral program. Introduce a friend to Legion TD 2, ask them to gift you, and you get $7-8 of Premium Essence for cosmetics.

MVP Details

You can now mouseover [MVP] to see details about why that player was awarded MVP. Remember that MVP does not always go to the player with the most power score or economic stats. MVP also takes into account other team-centric variables.

Fixes & Improvements

4v4 Matchmaking & Income Compensation

Classic 4v4 now has stricter matchmaking, based on your hidden 4v4 rating. This means that high-rated 4v4 players may wait longer in queue. We're being cautious here, since classic 4v4 is meant to be a more casual queue with low wait times. We'll continue to evaluate and make 4v4 matchmaking stricter as we can.

In addition, we've significantly decreased the amount of income compensation that is rewarded to weaker teams in classic 4v4 (now less than half of what it used to be). Income compensation only happens when teams are very lopsided, which can occur when high-rated players party with each other (for example, it's almost impossible to find a fair game when 3 or 4 top players party on the same team).

Major Improvements
 • Text Commands: -save/-load now support abilities/stacks for Mudman/Golem, Hydra, Nekomata, Angler/Bounty Hunter/Kingpin, Peewee/Veteran, Infiltrator/Orchid, Hell Raiser
 • Main Menu Reorganization: Tutorial & Sandbox have been moved to a new “Learn” menu, which also contains easy access to Top Games and Codex.
 • VFX: Many visuals should be more visible and distinct. Also, when units heal via lifesteal, a pale green healing effect is shown.
 • Guild War: Wins now give an essence bonus: 10% (Solo), 30% (Party)
 • Guild War: 4rd to 50th place guilds now get +250 GXP
Major Fixes
 • Autosend: Fixed a bug where in rare cases, autosending mercenaries didn’t deduct the correct amount of mythium
 • Mana: Fixed a bug where in rare cases, a unit would start with max mana when it should have started with 0 mana
 • Campaign: Fixed various bugs after using restart
 • Codex: Fixed a crash when opening the codex in-game in certain circumstances
 • Guilds: Fixed a crash when opening Guild Invitations with certain languages
 • Play vs. AI: Fixed a bug where bots sometimes would stop sending after wave 21
 • Matchmaking: Fixed a rare case where a high-rated player would be matched with new players
 • Matchmaking: Fixed a rare case where an incorrect 3v1 match would form in ranked queue
 • New Player Experience: Fixed a case where a player wouldn’t receive the new player rating bonus
Minor Improvements
 • HUD: Improved fighter recommendations to try to avoid recommending T1’s after the early waves
 • HUD: Fighter bar is now slightly higher up from the bottom of the screen to reduce accidentally panning the camera downwards when you meant to just hover/click an icon
 • Mastermind: Improved roll recommendations (for example, no longer will warn you about not having a Natural/Fortified tank if you have a Butcher selected)
 • Mastermind: Tooltips when selecting rolls are now wider
 • Play vs. AI: Bots are now a bit smarter about sending vs. dual building/eco building
 • Animations: Active abilities (Boost, Shuriken, Hero, etc.) now play unit animations
 • Mimic: Now gains a cosmetic buff every time it kills a unit, so you can see how much gold you earned from its Plunder ability
 • Color Blind Mode: Now displays “bonus/resistant” tooltip text instead of actual numbers
Minor Fixes
 • Postgame: Fixed a bug where in some cases, the MVP didn’t receive bonus essence
 • FairPlay: Fixed a bug where a player would be mistakenly marked as AFK if their only activity was to upgrade the king
 • Codex: Fixed mana regen display rounding
 • Inbox: Fixed some cases where in certain time zones, messages would be marked as read before they were actually read
 • Whispers: Fixed a case where sometimes whispers took a while to render in chats other than Global Chat
 • Essence Display: Fixed a cosmetic bug where an incorrect final currency amount was displayed in postgame and lobby after finishing a game
 • Interface: Fixed a typo with Villainy tooltip
 • Guilds: Fixed a bug when viewing guild profile where a player’s XP/Contribution sometimes displayed as 0 when they were in-game
 • Collection Value: Fixed a bug where collection value leaderboards weren’t updating properly
 • Twitch Tracker: Fixed a bug where the twitch tracker didn’t recover from a crash
 • Roll Window: Fixed a bug where the roll window didn’t save its position between sessions
 • Chat Whispers: Fixed a bug where whispering someone with a space in their name would add the last part of their name to the first whisper message
 • Pings: Fixed a cosmetic bug where pinging a unit would wrongly show it had bonus attack speed when it didn’t
 • Battle Texts: Fixed a bug where occasionally the selected unit didn’t show damage numbers until reselected
 • Game Coach: Fixed a few cases where the game coach gave bad advice
Stability
 • UI framework upgrade to fix some performance/crash issues on some systems
 • VFX framework upgrade to fix some miscellaneous issues
 • Steam framework upgrade to fix some miscellaneous issues
Game Coach
Now gives you a tip if you are lacking tanks or dps

Game Balance

We're considering a balance-only patch sometime this month.

Great Boar & Red Eyes
Improved consistency of charging pathing

Lord of Death & Hades
Summoned flying units (Undead Dragon & Thanatos) are now affected by Leviathan’s Aerial Command

A warm welcome to the 116,000 new players who got the game in the last month. We hope you enjoy the patch!

Sincerely,
Lisk, Jules, Curing, and Dani

v8.04.3

Lots more changes coming for v8.05 (in the next 1-2 weeks), but for now, a quick hotfix for Sovereign.

Sovereign
• Health: 6050 --> 6230 (3% increase)
• Now loses splash damage after 25 attacks at max mana. Now they should be a little less insane when catching leaks.

Fixes
• Fixed a bug where duo rating badges were incorrectly displayed
