We're only about 10 members away from hitting 4,000! This is an awesome milestone - thanks for sticking by our side throughout Tribes of Midgard's creation, for catching bugs, and of course the countless suggestions in #beta-ideas. πŸ’™

January Recap: New Features in the works!

Hey Vikings,

January has come and gone, and it's time for our monthly recap. Big things are happening! What exactly, you ask? We're here to let you know!Β πŸ˜„

While the game is currently closed, we want to keep you in the loop about all the features we're working on! We're moving full speed ahead on Tribes of Midgard - and can't wait to show you the next version of the game.

Here's a recap of some of the biggest things we're working on:

βš’οΈ Construction system: place walls, towers and ramps!
😈 A third Giant, whose form may surprise you
🏠 Revamping the Village layout
πŸ” Preparing procedural generation for new mechanics
πŸ“Β Level Design of the Dark Elf Bastion
πŸ”‘ Modelling the Gates of the Dark Elf Bastion (which require a key to open)
πŸƒ Updating enemy movement so that they can run further in the world
⛺️ New Camps in the Land of Pools
β˜ƒοΈ Research on Hot/Cold Gauges
πŸ‘• New Armor set, shields, and weapons

Our third Giant's form is a little different from anything you've seen so far! And with the addition of some different types of Camps (the ones that include doors and keys) there will be new points of interest to check out all over the world.

We'll be sharing how everything is looking, starting February! Make sure to follow us on whichever platform you use most to catch it all πŸ‘‡

We don't have a release date to share just yet, and we had our last Open Beta in December. However, we're planning at least one a Closed Beta before we head to release.

For now, be sure to Wishlist our game on Steam! We also post weekly updates there, and it'll be the first place to find out any Closed Beta news.Β

Yes... we go outside! Julian (our CEO), Sydnee and JP (our community managers) hopped on a few planes last week to embark on an important quest (we can't say anything more) - but exciting things are coming! We also visited Demo Night Montreal, which is an awesome event hosted to show off new upcoming games.

And, while we haven't released Tribes of Midgard just yet, you can still be a part of our Gamepedia. The Wiki's being filled up with game information and lore, thanks to the Wiki Team in our Discord! Honestly it's quite awesome to see the team work on this project, and it'll be handy for when the game's open again.

Anyone can join the team by messaging our Mods in the Discord!

Weekly Dev Update - January 29/20

Hey Vikings,

We are progressing on the work from the previous week but we are also starting some big changes in the world exploration. This includes creating some Camps (Elf Bastions) that will have Gates, that require a key to unlock.

This week we’re:

🏠 – Revamping the Village Layout Logic
πŸŒƒ – Revamping the Procedural Generation Logic
πŸ‘Ή – Improving current Giant Attacks for all Giants
πŸŒ† – Continuing Level Design of the Dark Elf Bastion
πŸ”‘ – Modelling in 3D the Gates of the Dark Elf Bastion
🌿 – Continuing on implementing the new Grass System
πŸƒ – Designing AI with new Movement Patterns & Behaviors
🏒 – Implementing Free Construction with Walls, Slopes and Grounds
πŸ”¨ – Fixing various issues for Controller, UI, Crashes, Modules & Materials
πŸ“– – Researching various features for Hot/Cold Gauges, Events & Season Changes
🐍 – Texturing/Modeling in 3D the Lindworm Creature

What's a Lindworm? Glad you asked. It's a legendary, dragon-like, serpent-like monster with claws. It won't be flying around Midgard though, as it's wingless, but you can bet it's going to slither around the Land of Pools in the future. Adding more creatures to the world is part of continuing our the quest of making Midgard feel more alive. Here's some of its original concept art (we'll be showing its final form very soon)!:

Talking about exploration and environments, what kind of Biome would you like to see in the game later on?

Tell us which one(s)! πŸ‘€

In case you haven't played yet, we currently have 5 Biomes:
  • Bright Forest (Forest)
  • Glacier Peak (Snow)
  • Ash Beach (Beach)
  • Smoky Highlands (Desert)
  • Land of Pools (Swamp)

Catch you next week!

Weekly Dev Update - January 22/20

Hey Vikings,

Last week, we’d been talking about different changes that would affect the game experience and we're on a roll!

Another aspect of the game that we're working on is making the world feel more "full"- this is one of our focuses this week along with new weapon spells. We've been working on new Camps to add to our swamp biome, the Land of Pools.

This week, we’re:

πŸ”ͺ – Designing the level of the Elf Bastion
πŸ”‘ – Modelling in 3D the Gate of the Elf Bastion
🌿 – Exploring new Grass system to create Props
πŸƒ – Updating AI to be able to chase Players further
πŸ›‚ – Preparing the opportunity to port the game in Consoles
β›Ί – Continuing on finishing the Small Camp for the Land of Pools
πŸ““ – Animating new Spells for new Weapons like the Baldur’s Revenge
πŸ”¨ – Fixing various issues for Passwords, Modules, Customization and Logging
πŸ“– – Researching various features for Village Layout, Blessings and Hot/Cold Gauges

Is there any weapon spell you wish to see in the game later on?

Let us know which ones! If you haven't played the game yet, our weapon spells are based around elemental attacks, so for example, a Dark skill would come from a Dark sword, and its color would be specific to the element (Dark = purple). When fighting, you'll also find opposite elements have better damage against each other, so if you're fighting our Fire Giant (HΓ logi) you'd definitely want to pick up an ice weapon.

Here's how the Dark Whirlwind looks for the Lindworm Sword:

And the Thunderstorm skill for Ymir's Eyelash sword...

If you're curious and want to read more about all the weapons in-game and each of their skills, check out our Wiki, which is community-made and still expanding!:
